Novak Djokovic is still in pursuit of making history on the ATP Tour, and will soon begin his 19th US Open campaign in his ongoing search for a record-breaking 25th Grand Slam title.

The Serb is still currently tied with Margaret Court of all-time for the most major crowns of any player, man or woman, with 24 to his name.

His last triumph on one of the four biggest stages in tennis was in 2023 at the US Open, where he hoisted the title after defeating Daniil Medvedev in straight sets.

Since then, he has suffered several near misses, with his best attempt at securing a quarter-century of Grand Slam titles coming at the 2024 Wimbledon championships, which saw Djokovic fall to Carlos Alcaraz in the final.

In 2025, he has made the semifinals of every major, failing to get over the line at each one, but things might be about to change in New York.

Novak Djokovic’s favourable draw at the 2025 US Open

Following his Wimbledon semifinal defeat to Jannik Sinner, Djokovic has not appeared at a tour-level event.

The 38-year-old opted not to play at a hard-court tune-up tournament, withdrawing from both the Canadian Open and the Cincinnati Open.

Though the lack of matchplay could prove problematic for Djokovic, he will still fancy his chances at Flushing Meadows, and even more so after the men’s singles draw was announced.

He has avoided Sinner until the final, and he will not meet Alcaraz until the semifinals, should both stars get there.

His first-round opponent will be American home hope Learner Tien, and he will face a qualifier or a lucky loser in round two.

Round three could see Djokovic pitted against Sebastian Korda or Cam Norrie, while the fourth round may see him clash with Holger Rune or Francis Tiafoe.

With favourable matchups en route to the final, Grand Slam number 25 could be on the cards for the world number seven.

Novak Djokovic will have his best chance to reach a major final

At the Australian Open earlier this year, Djokovic was agonisingly close to reaching the final, but was forced to withdraw from his semifinal bout with Alexander Zverev due to injury.

Without a torn muscle in his left leg, he would have been the favourite against the German, who he went on to beat at Roland Garros.

In Paris, Djokovic reached the semifinal again, but lost to Sinner, and he suffered defeat to the world number one once more in the final four at Wimbledon.

The Italian has his number, having emerged victorious in their last five tour-level meetings, but his rival, Alcaraz, does not.

Djokovic has beaten the Spaniard the last two times he has played him, the most recent of which was in Melbourne in four sets.

Now that he is on a semifinal collision course with Alcaraz rather than Sinner, the US Open may just mark his best chance at reaching a major final this year.
