Joao Fonseca’s first full season on the ATP Tour has been largely successful so far, with his most recent feat a Laver Cup debut triumph.
In his first appearance at the annual event, Fonseca defeated Flavio Cobolli to clinch a point for Team World on day one, before captain Andre Agassi‘s side went on to win it all.
The Laver Cup victory marked the fourth trophy the Brazilian has managed to get his hands on this year, following challenger wins in Canberra and Phoenix, as well as a maiden tour-level title in Buenos Aires.
As his season approaches its latter stages, Fonseca has made a clever decision that could benefit his tennis greatly going forward.

Joao Fonseca makes smart decision towards the end of the season
The 18-year-old has confirmed he will miss the entirety of the Asian swing, including the penultimate ATP Masters 1000 event of 2025 in Shanghai.
While there are opportunities for Fonseca to gain plenty of points in China and Japan, the young star has made the wise choice not to risk overplaying.
He has had a fairly limited schedule in his breakthrough season on tour, appearing mainly at Grand Slams and Masters competitions.
- Grand Slams competed in – 4
- ATP Masters 1000 events competed in – 6
- ATP 500 events competed in – 2
- ATP 250 events competed in – 2
- Challenger Tour events competed in – 3
Fonseca has passed up ranking points by not featuring in ATP 500 and 250 tournaments, but has also taken care of his body during a key development year in his career.
From now until the indoor hard-court season in Europe, he will have plenty of time to work on his game, and heal from any potential nagging injuries or fatigue.
With what looks to be an incredibly bright future ahead of him, Fonseca has scheduled his tennis sensibly in 2025, and it will no doubt bear fruit heading into the 2026 season.

The last ATP events Joao Fonseca can appear at in 2025
After the Asian swing, there are still eight tournaments the world number 42 can enter, all of which will be played indoors.
There will be three ATP 250 events in October, followed by two ATP 500s in Vienna and Basel.
Then the final Masters 1000 competition of the season will be played in Paris, before two more 250s get underway, including a new-look tournament in Athens.
Fonseca will not be playing in the Next Gen ATP Finals this year, which he won in 2024 after beating Learner Tien in the final.
