Jannik Sinner is on a collision course to finish the year with a flourish after losing the US Open final.

Carlos Alcaraz enjoyed success at the final Grand Slam of 2025, to make it 2-2 when it comes to major titles won this year for the world’s top two players.

Patrick Mouratoglou noticed something about Sinner at that tournament that had changed considerably, and he has worked on a lot since that tournament.

Alcaraz admits he enjoys playing Sinner, and although he might not admit it, the Italian has done something with his preparation for the remainder of 2025, which highlights where his sole focus lies.

Jannik Sinner packs his schedule for last part of 2025

Usually at this stage of the year, players start to cherry-pick their tournaments, but that’s not for Sinner.

The Italian player is clearly keen to finish the year with a flourish and has now entered the ATP 500 tournament in Vienna.

Sinner will therefore take part in a further seven tournaments this year, and that is quite telling.

Not all of those events will come with ranking points up for grabs, with the Davis Cup and Six Kings Slam on his radar.

However, it shows that he wants to stay in form to try and do something over Alcaraz before the year is out.

Sinner must be hellbent on world number one spot

After losing the world number one mantle after the US Open final, Sinner ended a long run at the top of the pile.

As a result, he’s had to take stock of a few things and now it would appear that he’s desperate to get his top spot back.

Sinner would be forgiven for taking his two Grand Slam titles this year and being happy with a few more tournaments before the year is over.

However, that’s not in the mantra of a true champion and instead, he’s packed out his schedule, with a seeming focus on ousting Alcaraz once again.

Alcaraz picked up an injury earlier today during a win and that could impact who finishes the season as the world’s best.

Sinner, however, has just provided his biggest clue yet that he’s seriously annoyed that Alcaraz has stolen his thunder at the top of the world rankings.
