Jannik Sinner is enjoying an extraordinary 2025 season, having added a fourth Grand Slam title to his name at Wimbledon.

Sinner defeated Carlos Alcaraz in the final at the All England Club to seal his second major of the season and become the first Italian in history to emerge victorious in singles at the tournament.

He now has a total of 20 career titles and has remained world number one throughout the year, despite serving a three-month ban from tennis, which began in February and ended in May.

Following his Wimbledon triumph, Sinner will now look ahead to the North American hard-court swing, culminating at the US Open, a tournament he’ll have the chance to end a 17-year-long drought at.

The feat Sinner could become the first to achieve in 17 years

While the Australian Open, Roland Garros and Wimbledon have all seen title defences in recent years, the US Open hasn’t featured one since 2008.

That year marked the last time an ATP player won consecutive crowns at Flushing Meadows, when Roger Federer won his fifth in a row.

Although two players have won multiple US Open titles in the seasons that have followed, namely, Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal, neither of them managed to go back-to-back.

Up steps Sinner, who now has a chance to end the drought and become the first to achieve the feat since Federer.

The 23-year-old has shown his dominance on hard courts in recent years, having won the last three Grand Slams on the surface.

Besides Alcaraz and perhaps Djokovic, it seems that no player is really capable of upsetting Sinner on hard court, and as of now, the Italian is the hot favourite to win it all.

Jannik Sinner’s streak at hard-court Grand Slams

Since Djokovic lifted his 24th Grand Slam title at the US Open in 2023, Sinner has won every hard-court major.

He won the Australian Open in 2024, defeating Daniil Medvedev over five sets in the final to clinch the title for the first time.

Then, in New York the following summer, he dropped just two sets en route to the final, where he beat Taylor Fritz to hold the trophy aloft.

Earlier this season, he collected his third Grand Slam, winning in Melbourne again, following his win over Alexander Zverev in the championship match.
