Iga Swiatek is entering her seventh Roland Garros campaign and is in pursuit of making history, as she bids to become the first player in the Open Era to win the tournament for a fourth consecutive time.
The Pole secured a three-peat at the French Open last year, joining Monica Seles and Justine Henin as the third player to have ever completed the feat.
Swiatek is in poor form coming into the event, however, having failed to reach a final during the clay swing before Roland Garros for the first time in four years, dropping to fifth in the WTA rankings.
She lost in the quarter-final of the Stuttgart Open, the semi-final of the Madrid Open, and suffered an early exit in Rome, where Swiatek crashed out of the Italian Open in the third round.
With her sights set on another title, Swiatek‘s chances of making history may have been hindered following the draw, and she will be particularly concerned about one name in her quarter.

Swiatek has been drawn in the same quarter as Jelena Ostapenko, who has proved to be her kryptonite.
The Latvian has an incredible record against Swiatek, leading the head-to-head 6-0, with two of her victories coming in 2025.
Ostapenko beat Swiatek at the Stuttgart Open in April, handing the five-time Grand Slam champion a quarter-final defeat in her first tournament of the clay season.
Her other victory this year came at the Qatar Open, where she won convincingly in straight sets against the former world number one.
It doesn’t get any easier for Swiatek outside of a potential clash with Ostapenko, with several big hitters in her path to the quarter-finals.
Also in her quarter are former Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina and 2021 US Open champion Emma Raducanu.
Iga Swiatek’s potential route to the Roland Garros final
Swiatek will play Rebecca Stramkova in her opening match, and will face either Raducanu or Wang Xinyu in round two.
The most likely third-round opponent comes in the form of 26th seed Marta Kostyuk, who has never won against the defending champion.
In the fourth round, Swiatek will potentially come up against one of Ostapenko, Rybakina, or Belinda Bencic.
She is in the same quarter of the draw as Italian Open champion Jasmine Paolini, and the same half as Aryna Sabalenka, meaning clashes against the Rome and Madrid winners could be on the cards.
Swiatek’s final opponent at Roland Garros could be Coco Gauff, who is in search of her second major title at this year’s event.
