The Australian Open may have only ended this time last month, but many ATP stars are already looking ahead to the French Open.

Alexander Zverev has been tipped to win the French Open, having lost both last year’s final and last month’s Australian Open final.

Carlos Alcaraz beat the German in the 2024 French Open final, with the Spaniard then going on to win Wimbledon.

World number one Sinner meanwhile, who is currently banned for three months, won the 2024 Australian Open and US Open titles.

He will, however, return in time for the French Open this time around, having recently been able to successfully defend his Melbourne title.

Every top ATP player will be worried about Joao Fonseca at the French Open

Sinner managed to avoid any upsets in Melbourne, but that wasn’t the case for several of his fellow top ATP players.

One such upset involved rising star Joao Fonseca, with the 18-year-old knocking out ninth seed Andrey Rublev in round one.

Having soared through qualifying, the Brazilian defeated the Russian in straight sets at Margaret Court Arena.

And he now represents a potential problem for every top ATP player for the French Open given his status as an unseeded player.

Thanks to his rapid rise, it will likely represent the last Grand Slam in which he will be unseeded, but for now there will not be a single player who will want to meet Fonseca in the first round of Roland Garros.

Joao Fonseca emerges as next Carlos Alcaraz after first ATP Tour title

Fresh from his NextGen ATP Finals success in Jeddah in December, Fonseca reached the second round in Melbourne.

He lost a five-set thriller against Lorenzo Sonego, but by that stage had already more than introduced himself to the ATP Tour.

Fonseca has emerged as the next Alcaraz, with the Brazilian teenager clinching his first ATP title at the Argetina Open earlier this month.

Worryingly for the biggest names on the circuit, he isn’t the only rising star who could do real damage at the French Open.

Learner Tien knocked out fifth seed and defending champion Daniil Medvedev in Melbourne, while Jakub Mensik edged out sixth seed Casper Ruud.

Both Fonseca and Tien have a superb chance to shine ahead of the French Open, with the young pair having been handed wildcards for Indian Wells.
