Emma Raducanu had some things to think about after her heartbreaking defeat against Jessica Pegula at the China Open.

Raducanu suffered another defeat after having match points, as she was beaten by Pegula in Beijing.

While there is a lot of conversation surrounding the match points she failed to convert, Raducanu may have a bigger concern after the China Open.

However, Raducanu may now have made a positive decision which could prove really beneficial for her going forward.

Emma Raducanu has made a great decision to enter a WTA 250 tournament

Despite being in the latter stages of the 2025 season, Raducanu still has a busy few weeks ahead and is currently scheduled to play four consecutive tournaments.

This is set to begin at the WTA 1000 event in Wuhan, before she plays in Ningbo, Tokyo and then Hong Kong.

Emma Raducanu’s ScheduleTournament Start Date
Wuhan Open (WTA 1000)October 6
Ningbo Open (WTA 500)October 13
Tokyo Open (WTA 500)October 20
Hong Kong Open (WTA 250)October 27

What is particularly notable about the tournament in Hong Kong is that it is a WTA 250 level tournament.

Raducanu has played a very full schedule in 2025, but she has only played one WTA 250 tournament which was all the way back at the end of January.

The Hong Kong Open will likely have a weaker field than many of Raducanu’s other tournaments and could create a big opportunity.

This feels especially important as four of Raducanu’s last five defeats have come against top 10 players, with the other against two-time Grand Slam champion Barbora Krejcikova, who has now ended her season.

Some of the other names currently announced for the Hong Kong tournament include Naomi Osaka, Anna Kalinskaya, Daria Kasatkina and Alexandra Eala.

It appears that this decision from Raducanu has also gone down well with her supporters, who have praised the Briton for making this choice.

One person wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter), “Finally she’s playing a 250!”

Another person wrote, “Really pleased Emma is playing Hong Kong. It’s definitely a tournament she can win.”

Someone else echoed the same sentiment, “Yeees! A WTA 250 is great! She should play more of those to get some points and trophies that will help with her confidence.”

As well as Raducanu looking to win her first title since the US Open in 2021, she will also have another goal in sight.

Will Emma Raducanu be seeded for the 2026 Australian Open?

Due to her busier schedule and improved results, Raducanu has made some big strides up the WTA rankings and is currently at her highest in over two years of world number 32.

That ranking is forecasted to improve even more after the conclusion of the China Open, as Raducanu is currently at a live ranking of world number 30.

After missing most of the Asian swing last year through injury, Raducanu now has no ranking points to defend until 2026 and is in a very strong position to be seeded at the Australian Open.

Raducanu has made no secret of the fact that this is a goal of hers, and she may want to go even better than that.

Currently sitting at 26th in the live WTA race, which tracks points earned in 2025, Raducanu could even break inside the top 24 of the rankings.

This could be significant for Raducanu, as it would mean that she would be guaranteed not to play a top eight ranked player at a Grand Slam until at least the fourth round.

Raducanu’s next focus will be the Wuhan Open, where she will be making her debut when the tournament gets underway on Monday, October 6.
