Since her triumph at Roland Garros, Coco Gauff’s 2025 WTA season has not gone the way she would have planned it.
The American enjoyed an incredible clay swing, reaching the final of both the Madrid Open and the Italian Open before eventually clinching her second Grand Slam title in Paris.
Since then, however, she has struggled to make deep runs at tour-level events, suffering first-round exits in Berlin and Wimbledon, before recording, up to this point, a largely unsuccessful hard-court season.
Gauff lost to Victoria Mboko in the fourth round of the Canadian Open and bowed out in Cincinnati to Jasmine Paolini.
After parting ways with her former coach, Matt Daly, the 21-year-old is now ready to kick off her seventh US Open campaign, which may prove to be a tricky one.

Coco Gauff’s difficult draw at the 2025 US Open
Following the women’s draw for the tournament, Gauff‘s hopes of going far at Flushing Meadows have received a big hit.
The young star can ease her way into the competition with a few favourable opening matchups, the first of which will be against Ajla Tomljanovic.
Potential second-round opponents are Donna Vekic and Jessica Bouzas Maneiro, while round three could see Gauff clash with Magdalena Frech.
Things then take a turn for the worse, however, as in the fourth round she could go toe-to-toe with four-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka.
Should Gauff reach the quarterfinals, she will likely be faced with US compatriot Madison Keys, who proved what she is capable of on hard court earlier this year when she won the Australian Open.
She also finds herself in the same half of the draw as the Wimbledon champion Iga Swiatek, who added yet another title to her name in Cincinnati.
Coco Gauff’s disappointing 2024 US Open campaign
Gauff will not only be looking to improve on recent results at Flushing Meadows this year, but also her 2024 campaign in New York.
Entering her first Grand Slam title defence at last season’s US Open, she began her run with two convincing straight-set wins.
| Round | Opponent |
|---|---|
| Fourth Round | Emma Navarro (L) |
| Third Round | Elina Svitolina (W) |
| Second Round | Tatjana Maria (W) |
| First Round | Varvara Gracheva (W) |
In the third round, she was tested by Elina Svitolina, who took her to a decisive third set, but Gauff was able to secure the win.
The fourth round, however, is where she would see her tournament come to an end, when she suffered defeat to Emma Navarro at Arthur Ashe Stadium.
While her draw this year may be a tough one to deal with, Gauff still remains one of the heavy favourites to hoist the trophy at the end of the fortnight.
