Coco Gauff has lost her latest battle with Aryna Sabalenka, which arrived in the final of the Madrid Open.

Sabalenka thinks she’ll have many more finals with Gauff after their latest clash, with their head-to-head record now standing at 5-5.

Gauff had a set point in their Madrid Open final, but Sabalenka turned it around to emerge victorious 6-3, 7-6(7-3).

The WTA number one has now added to her successes in Brisbane and Miami, with Gauff yet to win a title in 2025 so far.

The American will get another chance at the Italian Open this month, another WTA 1000 tournament in the schedule.

Coco Gauff’s double faults problem emerges ahead of French Open

The French Open arrives shortly after, with Gauff certainly facing a concern as the Grand Slam rapidly approaches.

She committed a huge eight double faults throughout the Madrid Open final, with Sabalenka committing just two.

Worryingly, that is not a new issue, with Gauff having topped the pile for double faults in the 2024 WTA season.

She committed 430 throughout the campaign, with Marta Kostyuk well behind in second with 370, although admittedly she was not as active as Gauff.

But the American clearly hasn’t been able to fix the issue, with Gauff also topping the list for 2025 so far with 127 double faults, ahead of Jelena Ostapenko (121) in second.

What is Coco Gauff’s record at the French Open?

Gauff has, of course, already enjoyed superb Grand Slam success in her relatively brief career, having won the 2023 US Open.

She defeated Sabalenka in the final that year, remarkably lifting the iconic trophy in New York at the age of just 19.

Now 21, Gauff has failed to add to that tally since then, but she does have a strong history at the French Open.

The American ace reached the semi-finals last year and lost the final in 2022, with both defeats coming against Iga Swiatek.
