Carlos Alcaraz suffered a shock defeat in his opening match at the 2025 Paris Masters.

Entering the tournament as the number-one seed, Alcaraz took on Britain’s Cameron Norrie in round two.

Producing one of the best performances of his career, Norrie stunned Alcaraz in three sets, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, to knock the Spaniard out of the tournament.

Alcaraz was well below par on Tuesday evening, as he continues to struggle on indoor hard courts.

The 22-year-old hasn’t quite got to grips with the surface during his ATP Tour career and has an alarmingly poor record by his lofty standards…

Carlos Alcaraz is 31-13 (70%) on indoor hard courts

Alcaraz has played 44 total matches on indoor hard courts throughout his career, winning 31 and losing 13.

His record on indoor hard courts is far worse than any of the other three main surfaces: clay, hard, and grass.

His 13 defeats have come against a variety of opponents, ranging from top 10 stars to players who reside outside the top 50.

Carlos Alcaraz’s defeats on Indoor hard courts

It did, however, look like Alcaraz had turned the corner on indoor hard courts earlier this year, when he lifted his first title on the surface.

Deciding against a trip to South America for the clay ‘golden swing’, Alcaraz flew to the Netherlands for the Rotterdam Open.

Finding his footing, Alcaraz advanced to the final, where he met Australia’s Alex de Minaur.

The Aussie put up a good fight but failed in his bid to win the title, as Alcaraz defeated Alex de Minaur 6-4, 3-6, 6-2.

With the win, Alcaraz picked up his first career title indoors, as he celebrated in front of the Dutch fans.

Unfortunately for Alcaraz, he couldn’t carry that form through to the Paris Masters, as he suffered another early exit at the final Masters 1000 event of the year.

The Spaniard will hope to bounce back at the ATP Finals next month, another event he has yet to win.

How likely is Carlos Alcaraz to win the ATP Finals?

Alcaraz has only played the ATP Finals twice, losing in the semifinals in 2023 and in the group stage last time around.

He’ll return to Turin as one of the top two seeds, but with one of the worst records of all the players participating.

Only De Minaur (0-3) has a worse ATP Finals record than Alcaraz of the players set to compete in the 2025 tournament.

He’ll want to improve his record in Turin, but will be up against it, taking on indoor hard court specialists Jannik Sinner, Novak Djokovic, and Alexander Zverev.

Only time will tell how Alcaraz will perform at the 2025 ATP Finals, although you certainly won’t want to miss any of the action when the tournament begins on Sunday, November 9.
