It felt like everyone was accusing him of being inconsistent.

Despite being so young and having just split the four Grand Slams two apiece with Jannik Sinner, there were growing claims that there was a gulf between them.
Whilst the Italian was lauded for his rock-solid quality across an entire year, Alcaraz was instead pitted against him, with many arguing that he was the antithesis of his great rival due to his magical peaks but tough lows.
He had lost some unexpected matches, most notably in Cincinnati and at the US Open, which fanned the flames of this narrative.
However, with eight ATP titles and two more Grand Slam titles in 2025, it’s fair to say those arguments have died down.

To back against Alcaraz is to take an almighty risk, particularly given the way in which he has played across the last 11 months.
He has been inspired, winning trophy after trophy and deservedly raising himself to the top of the ATP rankings.
There’s no denying that the Spaniard has been the best player in 2025, and that could only have come about with a massive boost to his consistency. Now, this young superstar has a baseline level that few on tour can compete with, other than Sinner.
That is a trait that they both share, despite the Italian having previously been seen as the far more reliable of the pair throughout 2024.
The six-time Grand Slam champion reached at least the quarter-final of all four majors, three of which were the finals.

Given the rate at which Alcaraz continues to improve despite already being so comfortable within the top two, it’s frightening to imagine just how good he might become in 2026.
