The 2025 US Open mixed doubles event is right around the corner, but the world number one has just lost her partner due to injury.
Aryna Sabalenka was set to partner up with Grigor Dimitrov for the revamped mixed doubles event in New York.
That won’t be happening now, as Dimitrov has withdrawn from the US Open after suffering an injury during his fourth-round match at Wimbledon.

With 14 of the 16 teams now confirmed for the US Open mixed doubles event, Sabalenka needs to find a partner quickly if she wants to be awarded a wildcard.
As the world number one, Sabalenka won’t be short of suitors, although one name stands out above the rest.
Aryna Sabalenka should play with Alexander Bublik at the US Open
Kazakh star Alexander Bublik could be the perfect partner for Sabalenka in New York, as he continues to impress on the ATP Tour.
Since losing his opening match at Wimbledon, Bublik has won eight matches in a row, picking up his second and third titles of the season.

- 1. Swiss Open 1R – Alexander Bublik defeated Alexander Shevchenko
- 2. Swiss Open QF – Alexander Bublik defeated Francisco Comesana
- 3. Swiss Open SF – Alexander Bublik defeated Arthur Cazaux
- 4. Swiss Open F – Alexander Bublik defeated Juan Manuel Cerundolo
- 5. Generali Open 1R – Alexander Bublik defeated Thiago Tirante
- 6. Generali Open QF – Alexander Bublik defeated Alexander Shevchenko
- 7. Generali Open SF – Alexander Bublik defeated Botic van de Zandschulp
- 8. Generali Open F – Alexander Bublik defeated Arthur Cazaux
Ever the entertainer, Bublik would be a fantastic addition to the new-look mixed doubles tournament, which has been designed to attract new fans to the sport.
Not only is he an entertainer, but Bublik is now one of the best players in the men’s game, and currently sits 12th in the ‘Live ATP Race to Turin’.
If Sabalenka and Bublik were to pair up in New York, they’d no doubt entertain fans with world-class shot-making and powerful ball striking.
A combined ranking of 26 (Sabalenka – 1, Bublik – 25) would’ve seen them narrowly miss out on direct entry to the event, but that’s not to say they shouldn’t be considered for a wild card spot.
With two more places up for grabs, it will be interesting to see if Sabalenka and Bublik put themselves forward.
Who are the 14 teams confirmed for the US Open mixed doubles event?
Sabalenka and Bublik would make fine additions to the lineup, but who are the 14 teams already confirmed for the event?

Several top stars are set to compete at Flushing Meadows, including Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz, Novak Djokovic, Iga Swiatek, and Jessica Pegula.
It remains to be seen who the tournament organisers will award the final two wildcards to, but they have plenty of teams to choose from, as the following have all put their names forward to compete.
- Lorenzo Musetti/Jasmine Paolini
- Andrey Rublev/Karolina Muchova
- Alex de Minaur/Katie Boulter
- Hubert Hurkacz/Donna Vekic
- Nick Kyrgios/Naomi Osaka
- Jenson Brooksby/Iva Jovic
- Felix Auger-Aliassime/Gabriela Dabrowski
- Tallon Griekspoor/Demi Schuurs
- Marcelo Arevalo/Katerina Siniakova
- Evan King/Desirae Krawczyk
- Jan Zielinski/Hsieh Su-Wei
The team of Naomi Osaka and Nick Kyrgios would be an obvious pick, given their status within the game, although the Aussie’s injury status may have scared organisers off handing him a wildcard.
It would be very harsh if Marcelo Arevalo and Katerina Siniakova were to miss out, considering they are both ranked number one in doubles on their respective tours.
Only time will tell if Sabalenka will make the field, but you certainly won’t want to miss any of the action when the tournament begins on Tuesday, August 19.
