Alexander Zverev has a fantastic opportunity to finally end his Grand Slam title drought at Roland Garros this year.

The experienced German arguably has his best-ever chance at a maiden major title in Paris, with his main rivals Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic both out of the tournament.

ATP superstar Carlos Alcaraz is also absent through injury, with his fellow Spaniard Rafael Jodar now representing the next challenge for Zverev.

And it is that challenging draw that represents one disadvantage for Zverev as he chases his first Grand Slam success at Roland Garros.

Who is the best ATP player never to win a Grand Slam title?

Is it Alexander Zverev, Marcelo Rios, Tomas Berdych, David Ferrer or maybe even someone else?

Alexander Zverev has the toughest Roland Garros draw

Zverev was projected to meet Djokovic in the semifinals and Sinner in the final of Roland Garros, but their early exits brought an abrupt end to those potential matches.

But despite the losses of many top players, the draw remains unkind for the German, beginning with Jodar.

He recently claimed his maiden ATP title on the Marrakech clay, before a semifinal run in Barcelona and quarterfinal runs in Madrid and Rome.

And should he make it past the talented teenager in the bottom half of the draw, another tough test awaits against either Joao Fonseca or Jakub Mensik.

The former has already knocked out Djokovic and Casper Ruud, while the latter has beaten Alex de Minaur and Andrey Rublev.

Also vying for a quarterfinal spot at the time of Zverev’s latest win were Juan Manuel Cerundolo and Matteo Berrettini, along with Frances Tiafoe and Matteo Arnaldi.

And they were joined in the top half of the draw by Flavio Cobolli and Zachary Svajda, as well as Felix Auger-Aliassime and Alejandro Tabilo.

Alexander Zverev under immense pressure to win Roland Garros

While it is not as significant as the difficulty of his draw, Roland Garros favorite Zverev is also dealing with another challenge in the French capital.

Given his status as the overwhelming favorite to lift the trophy, there is undoubtedly huge pressure on the German.

He’ll certainly be feeling that heat in Paris, where all of the expectation is on him to clinch the title thanks to his previous experience and current world number three ranking.

It is now up to the second seed to either thrive in or crumble under such pressure, which is in stark contrast to his potential opponents.

Given their age and subsequent lack of experience, the likes of Jodar, Fonseca and Mensik really have absolutely nothing to lose.

Zverev should, however, be really motivated by revenge, having lost all three of his career Grand Slam finals, including one at Roland Garros in 2024.
