Winning Wimbledon is the pinnacle in the career of any tennis player, but there are plenty who never get over the line.
In 2014, it was almost a dream tournament for a player on the WTA Tour, but she fell at the final hurdle.
It can sometimes be tough to bounce back from the heartbreak of losing a major final, even if the rigorous schedule typically throws up a tournament so quickly.
Eleven years ago, Eugenie Bouchard looked on course for victory at Wimbledon but sadly couldn’t get over the line on that particular occasion, losing to Petra Kvitova in straight sets.
Tennis is clearly in her blood, however, and intriguingly, there have been some developments regarding the Canadian player.

Eugenie Bouchard enters challenger event in United States
The 31-year-old has never officially retired, although you have to go back to the French Open in 2020 to find Bouchard playing a Grand Slam event.
Now, Bouchard has decided to enter the WTA 125 event in Newport that gets underway today, with American opponent Anna Sinclair Rogers standing in her way of progression.
Bouchard doesn’t have a world ranking at the moment given her lack of tennis but she will definitely be the player everyone is itching to see at the tournament when it gets underway in Newport.
The player who won one singles title during her career will also take part in the doubles, partnering with Polish performer Olivia Lincer to face Alana Smith and Maria Mateas in the first round.
2014 was the summit of Bouchard’s career
There might not be any regrets from Bouchard, who has earned almost $6.5 million from playing the game of tennis during her career.
However, if she could turn the clock back, it seems likely that she would go back to 2014, where she was seemingly on the cusp of something special.
Bouchard not only reached the final of Wimbledon but also made the semi-finals of the Australian Open and Roland Garros.
Sadly, the very popular player couldn’t get over the line and win one of the game’s biggest prizes and was also beaten in the group stages of the WTA Finals in 2014 too.
Bouchard has sat as high as number five in the world rankings and as a result, it will be fascinating to see how she performs entering the latest WTA 125 event in Newport this week.
