Taylor Fritz is just one win away from the Wimbledon final as he continues to impress on the grass.

Travelling to SW19 with two 2025 grass-court titles to his name, Fritz emerged as a real dark horse for Wimbledon.

His title hopes were very nearly dashed in round one, however, as Fritz barely survived a five-set battle with Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard.

Kicking on from there, Fritz won another five-setter in round two against Gabriel Diallo, before he knocked out Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, Jordan Thompson, and Karen Khachanov to reach the semis.

There, he will meet two-time defending champion Carlos Alcaraz, who looked imperious during his quarterfinal win over Cameron Norrie.

Fritz will certainly be up against it in the semis, as a former Wimbledon doubles champion has outlined the serving numbers the American will need to record if he is to have a chance of victory.

Stephen Huss says Taylor Fritz needs to serve at ’70, 75%’ to beat Carlos Alcaraz at Wimbledon

Appearing as a guest on the latest episode of ‘The Tennis’, 2005 Wimbledon doubles champion Stephen Huss set Fritz a serving target for his semifinal match.

“I think he has to probably serve at 70, 75% to win that, I think it’s possible,” he said.

“I respect [Taylor] Fritz massively, he’s got a huge amount of power, he’s become a much better competitor.

“The knock on him when he was younger was that he wasn’t an elite mover. I wouldn’t say he’s an elite mover now, but if he serves well enough, he’s going to get some looks at [Carlos] Alcaraz’s serve.

“I think he’s dangerous, everyone’s got Alcaraz going through, but perhaps I’ve got more respect for Fritz than others.”

Huss has stated how well he believes Fritz needs to serve to beat Alcaraz, but how has the 27-year-old served so far at Wimbledon?

Fritz has yet to serve above 70% at the tournament, averaging 63% of his first serves.

If Huss is right, Fritz will need to improve by 10% against Alcaraz if he wants to secure his place in the final.

Not impossible by any means, but certainly a tall order for the world number five.

Taylor Fritz’s record in ‘big’ Grand Slam matches

The American star has become a regular fixture in the second week of Slams over recent years, as he threatens to end the nation’s drought at major tournaments.

Fritz has played six Grand Slam quarterfinals, one semifinal, and one final throughout his career, but what is his record like?

After losing his first four major quarterfinals, Fritz reached his first semifinal at the 2023 US Open, defeating Alexander Zverev in four sets.

He didn’t have to wait long for another big win, as Fritz defeated his fellow American Frances Tiafoe in the last four.

He failed in his bid to win the title, losing out to Jannik Sinner in the final, but bounced back at Wimbledon, securing a big victory over Russia’s Khachanov.

Now 3-5 in ‘big’ Grand Slam matches, Fritz will be hoping to pick up win number four when he takes on Alcaraz in the Wimbledon semifinals.

The pair have met twice before, with the Spaniard emerging victorious on both occasions, at the 2023 Miami Open and 2024 Laver Cup.

Only time will tell if history will repeat itself or if Fritz will qualify for his second Grand Slam final, but you certainly won’t want to miss any of the action.

Alcaraz and Fritz will face off for a place in the 2025 Wimbledon final on Friday, July 11.
