Carlos Alcaraz became the youngest man to complete the Career Grand Slam in Australia.

Defeating Novak Djokovic in the Australian Open men’s singles final, Alcaraz completed the set of all four Grand Slams.

Only six men in Open Era history have won the four major titles at least once: Rod Laver, Andre Agassi, Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Djokovic, and now Alcaraz.

Who finishes their career on more majors – Alcaraz or Djokovic?

Having accomplished such a remarkable feat at just 22 years of age, you wonder what is left for Alcaraz to achieve in tennis.

Well, there’s the ATP Finals still to win, and several Masters 1000 titles, all of which he could tick off by the end of 2026.

However, to truly ‘complete’ tennis, Alcaraz will need to wait at least two more years.

Carlos Alcaraz needs to win Olympic gold to ‘complete’ tennis

The four Grand Slams are the biggest titles in tennis, but an Olympic gold medal is just as special.

Unfortunately, the Olympic Games only come around once every four years, limiting most players to three or four shots at the gold medal.

For context, Djokovic won his first gold medal at his fifth Olympic Games, finally winning the title that had long eluded him.

Alcaraz has only ever played the Olympics once, in Paris, two years ago.

How close was Carlos Alcaraz to winning Olympic gold in Paris?

Making his Olympic debut in 2024, Alcaraz didn’t drop a set en route to the final.

He met Djokovic in the final, as the pair battled it out for the gold medal on Court Philippe Chatrier.

Alcaraz and Djokovic both played great tennis in Paris, and there was very little in it, as both sets required a tiebreaker.

Djokovic held his nerve best, though, winning 7-6, 7-6.

Alcaraz had to settle for silver, leaving him with something to aim for at the next Olympic Games.

If not, which Grand Slam is he going to fail to win?

When he travels to Los Angeles for the 2028 Games, Alcaraz could potentially ‘complete’ tennis with a gold medal.

That is, if he wins everything else before then…

What else does Carlos Alcaraz need to win?

At 22, Alcaraz has won more than surely even he could have imagined was possible.

But there’s more work to do, as several titles need to be won before he, like Djokovic, can claim he’s ‘completed’ the sport.

Titles Carlos Alcaraz hasn’t won

First, Alcaraz needs three more Masters 1000 titles to finish the set.

He has yet to win the Canadian Open, Shanghai Masters, or the Paris Masters.

Unsurprisingly, those are his worst Masters 1000 events, by win %.

He also needs to win the ATP Finals on indoor hard courts.

Alcaraz has played the event three times, but has yet to lift the trophy in Turin.

The Spaniard played well in Italy last November, but looked no match for Jannik Sinner in the final.

He’ll likely need to find another gear on indoor-hard if he wants to add that title to his trophy collection.

The same could be said about the Davis Cup Finals, also played indoors.

He and Sinner both missed the tournament last time around, but it is the Italian who has enjoyed more success at the event.

Sinner’s Italy will return in 2026 as the three-time defending champions, while Alcaraz has never taken Spain past the quarterfinals.

It remains to be seen how many, if any, of those titles Alcaraz can win for the first time in 2026.

And if he can win Olympic gold at the 2028 Games in Los Angeles…
