Jack Draper is one of the most promising young players on the ATP Tour, so The Tennis Gazette covers everything to know about the British men’s hope for Wimbledon 2024.

Great Britain is desperate for its next Andy Murray as the iconic Scot heads towards retiring. Draper stands a great chance of being the man to adopt the throne with an exciting game to set his career up for future success. His consistency even as a junior player was evident, too.

Consistency was often the foundation for Draper’s game throughout his junior career before turning professional in 2018. His ability to grind through opponents was also clear as Draper honed a forceful serve and ruthless competitive mind without fading his likeable personality.

Jack Draper became the British No1 men’s player for the first time in June 2024

Draper has further refined his game over the years and moved away from his comfort zone of returning serves from deep. But injuries often blighted his rise on the ATP Tour and even began to define the Brit. Yet 2024 marked a breakthrough for Draper after regaining fitness.

Hip and abdominal problems stained his record in 2023 and a shoulder injury forced Draper to retire from the French Open in the first round, as well, on his senior debut. But he rallied in 2024 and Draper won his maiden ATP title at the Stuttgart Open against Matteo Berrettini.

Another career high also followed on June 17, 2024 as Draper became the new British No1 for the first time in his career. It marked the reward for a career which began aged six when his mother, Nicky, took Draper to his first training session whilst working as a tennis coach.

Jack Draper comes from a tennis family through his mother and father

Nicky Draper is a former British junior champion and coached Jack with his brother, Ben, at their local Sutton Tennis & Squash club as youths. His father, Roger, was a talented amateur tennis player, as well, who later served as the Chief Executive of the LTA from 2006 to 2013.

Jack Draper would go on to reach the final of Junior Wimbledon at 16 years old in 2018. But he missed out on being the first British player to win the men’s title in 56 years after a three-set loss to Taiwan’s Tseng Chun-Hsin. It was his only appearance in a junior Grand Slam final.

Three years later, Draper made his professional Wimbledon debut before a deafening Centre Court crowd against Novak Djokovic. He received a wildcard entry for the championship and also won the first set 6-4. But Draper lost 4-6, 6-1, 6-2, 6-2 to Djokovic as the pressure told.

So, who really is Draper and who is the coaching team supporting the British hopeful ahead of the 2024 edition of Wimbledon? The Tennis Gazette offers everything you need to know…
