Iga Swiatek has booked her place in the third round after pulling through against Suzan Lamens to win in three sets.

The Wimbledon champion took the first set comfortably, but conceded the second by six games to four, and looked visibly frustrated on court.

Lamens looked as if she was closing in on a huge upset, but Swiatek ultimately came out on top to clinch her 51st win of 2025 and improve her winning streak to seven matches.

Commentating on the match, former British tennis player Laura Robson noticed something unusual about the Pole’s communication with her player box.

What Laura Robson thought was unusual about Iga Swiatek’s player box

Giving her analysis on Sky Sports, Robson said mid-contest: “It’s just so unusual to see the player box so openly frustrated.

“There is a lot of dialogue back and forth at the moment. Iga is kind of looking over at them, and she has lost a bit of patience in that group too.

“In terms of tennis, she has totally lost the forehand, and instead of trying to rein things in and take things off until you find the rhythm, she has just gone the opposite way and is trying to hit winners all the time.

“That is not going to help if you are trying to add mph when no mph needs to be added. It’s the sort of attitude we have not seen from her since much earlier in the year, before this incredible winning streak she has been on.

“Maybe it had to come at some point because it has been a lot. A lot of time on court, a lot of tennis played.

“But this is reminding me of when she plays someone like a Noskova and tries to outhit them, and you’re thinking that is not your game plan and not your strength.”

Iga Swiatek becomes the fourth in the Open Era to achieve feat

With her victory over Lamens, Swiatek is now the fourth player in the Open Era to reach the third round at 23 or more consecutive women’s singles Grand Slam events.

She joins Martina Navratilova, Conchita Martinez, and Arantxa Sanchez Vicario in the list of players to achieve the feat.

The world number two has tallied more consecutive third-round appearances at majors than 22-time Grand Slam champion Steffi Graf.

Her next opponent at the US Open is the 29th seed Anna Kalinskaya.
