Roger Federer will undoubtedly be full of emotions after returning to the Laver Cup, the event which brought the curtain down on his stunning career.
Federer teamed up with Rafael Nadal at the 2022 Laver Cup, in what was his final match before retirement.
Surprisingly, the legendary duo suffered a defeat to Team World pair Jack Sock and Frances Tiafoe, with their team going on to win the event for the very first time.
The Swiss icon has gone down in history for his efforts on the court, with Christopher Eubanks praising Federer’s ‘fighting spirit’.
That spirit was on show in four editions of the Laver Cup, with the 20-time Grand Slam champion winning three of those with Team Europe.

Roger Federer catches up with John McEnroe at the Laver Cup
A 2022 London victory wasn’t meant to be, but the Swiss star did play key roles in Prague, Chicago and Geneva in 2017, 2018 and 2019 respectively.
And as per the Laver Cup on X, Federer has now touched down at the Uber Arena in Berlin for the upcoming event, where he bumped into Team World captain John McEnroe and Team Europe captain Bjorn Borg.
“Good surprise, they said nobody’s hitting, and Johnny Mac’s here,” said Federer, with the American replying: “Good to see you.”
Federer responded: “Nice to see you too. You good?” with McEnroe asking the question: “Would you like to hit some?”
The Swiss legend said: “I would. I’d be ready to go. Just a few shots you know. You been good?” with McEnroe saying: “Ahh, no complaints, the [US] Open was busy. We heard at one point you were coming up, we were all pumped up… ‘Roger might come and join in the booth’.
Federer replied: “Really? You got all your questions ready?” with McEnroe responding: “We were ready, we were pumped up.”
Can John McEnroe clinch Laver Cup success with Team World?
Team World finally ended their Laver Cup nightmare in 2022 with that London win, having lost the previous four editions.
But they are now looking to make it three in a row, having overcome Team Europe in Vancouver last time out.
It will, however, be a very tricky task, given that they will come up against the likes of Carlos Alcaraz, Daniil Medvedev and Alexander Zverev.
Stefanos Tsitsipas loved playing with Federer, with the Greek ace also on Borg’s team for the competition in Berlin.
But Team World also boast an exciting group of players, with American stars Ben Shelton, Taylor Fritz and Tiafoe all involved.
