Emotions were running high during Novak Djokovic’s Australian Open third round match against Tomas Machac.
The Serbian faced what looked like a daunting prospect of going up against the hard-hitting Czech player, who won their last encounter at the Geneva Open in 2024.
But Grand Slams are on a different level and the Serbian showed why is the most successful player in these tournaments with a ruthless display.
Novak Djokovic defeated Machac in straight sets and perhaps some hecklers in the crowd spurred him to play even better.

There has been plenty of talk about the crowds at the 2025 Australian Open.
The likes of Jack Draper and Danielle Collins have been on the receiving end of boos and jeers during their matches against Australian players.
There was certainly another electric atmosphere on Rod Laver Arena when Djokovic took on Tomas Machac, but Eurosport commentator Laura Robson noticed some fans who were heckling the 37-year-old during the contest, which was frustrating him.
“It was more than a few [fans]. It started with people calling balls out in the rally or making a noise and it was an issue for both players.

“Novak definitely had a few people in the front row towards the far end of the court who seemed to be peppering him a little bit.
“It was hard to pick up what was said but it certainly frustrated him a little. But there was a lot going on anyway.
“For sure that was his best match of the tournament and he has got to be happy with that. The level was ridiculous, watching it courtside.”

Djokovic some rowdy spectators inside Rod Laver Arena to defeat Tomas Machac and move into the last 16 at the Australian Open.
The seventh seed cruised to a 6-1, 6-4, 6-4 win in two hours and 22 minutes and continued his quest for a record 25th Grand Slam.
During his post-match interview, the Serbian responded to a fan who yelled while he spoke to Andrea Petkovic.
“Sorry mate. I have a wife. We can have a drink though. Maybe you’ve had a few already, “Djokovic said. “He and I were going back and forth for quite a while.”
