Madison Keys became the fifth American woman to win the Australian Open title this century after beating Aryna Sabalenka.

Keys made history after beating Sabalenka, as she ended the world number one’s 20-match winning streak at the Australian Open.

She did this by hitting some big winners, including Keys hitting a clutch forehand in the latter stages of the deciding set.

Since winning her first Grand Slam title, Keys been praised by Serena Williams amongst many others as she raises her profile in the sporting world.

There have already been changes to the world number seven’s life since becoming a Grand Slam champion, with Keys now unable to play a WTA tournament.

Rennae Stubbs notices Madison Keys’ husband doing something in the Australian Open final

Keys first caught attention at 14-years-old when she won her debut WTA match, but was unable to claim her first Grand Slam title until 15 years later.

She has recently got married to former player and long-term partner Bjorn Fratangelo, who became her coach after Roland Garros in 2023.

When talking on her podcast, Rennae Stubbs noticed something about their coaching relationship at the Australian Open, as he praised Fratangelo’s contribution that has changed Keys since US Open heartbreak.

“The player that was going to benefit from having her coach and now her husband close to the court the most was going to be Madison Keys,” claimed Stubbs. “Everyone probably benefits from it but there is no doubt Madison Keys was the one who was going to benefit the most.

“The one thing I look for the most in Madison is her anxiety levels and her breathing. I have said it in US Open matches ‘oh no, her breathing’. I can see her chest rising, her eyes getting bigger and all of a sudden you can see her confusion. She thinks go bigger and you’re like ‘yeah, but no…let’s find a good game plan with the bigger’. And the racket, sure, it helps, but having Bjorn there in a calm way or a snappy way, was enormous.

“She had him in her ear the whole match, calming her down, keeping her focused on the game plan, making her realise she could do it. I was like it is so obvious that she was going to benefit and look at her! I saw him in the last game, he shook his shoulders, as if to say loosen up and go for it.”

Rennae Stubbs says Madison Keys can win every Grand Slam

Former world number one Jimmy Connors hopes Keys continue her success on from winning the Australian Open.

This is something that Stubbs thinks Keys is capable of, suggesting that the American is capable of winning every major tournament.

“I tell you what, she is good enough to win every Grand Slam,” said Stubbs. “She can play on every surface. She plays well on grass, she has won at Eastbourne a couple of times and played well at Wimbledon in the past.

“We know what she can do at the French, she has made the semis there. We know what we can do at the US Open. I am telling you that girl can win on any surface.”

Keys has reached the quarter-final of every Grand Slam tournament, including the final of the US Open back in 2017.
