Emma Raducanu’s Romanian fairytale is over, having been beaten by Sorana Cirstea in the final.
It marked a crushing end to a hugely positive week, with the British number one running out of gas as the tournament reached its conclusion.
She was hammered off the court by the wily 35-year-old, whom she had admitted to being starstruck around when the event began.
And now, it’s been revealed what they said to one another at the net, after Cirstea had dispatched Emma Raducanu by a heavy 6-0, 6-2 scoreline.
Emma Raducanu’s conversation at the net with Sorana Cirstea
Given how well-received Raducanu was throughout this event, given her Romanian heritage, it’s no surprise that she revered many of the star names from this country present at the event.
Cirstea was one such example, but having Simona Halep watch on from the stands will have meant a lot to her as well.
Will Emma Raducanu ever win another Grand Slam title?
This clearly developed into something of a friendship between the 22-year-old and her opponent, who is retiring at the end of this year.
Raducanu was heard telling Cirstea at the net that she was ‘so happy’ for her, branding it the ‘perfect end’ and suggesting she was ‘playing unreal’.
She would then confirm that she had been feeling unwell, with Cirstea asking if she was okay.
Cirstea revealed the wish she has for Raducanu in her post-match speech too, highlighting this newfound relationship.
Emma Raducanu has proven a lot of people wrong with run to the final
Whilst many will ridicule Raducanu’s heavy defeat in the Transylvania Open final, they clearly do not see the bigger picture.
After all, this marks a huge step in the right direction for the youngster, reaching her first final in nearly five years.

This is exactly the kind of path she should be following, in an effort to get more titles on the board and distance herself from that 2021 US Open triumph.
It was a magical honour and a great success, but even she would admit it has weighed her down in the years since.
By dropping down to a WTA 250-level event, Raducanu has shown humility that many have claimed she lacked, and it very nearly paid off.
Emma Raducanu should make Andy Murray her next coach
Do you think this is a possibility?
Putting together strings of wins, no matter the level, deserves credit. This is the way she should continue tackling her 2026 campaign, playing the type of tennis she wants and hopefully claiming many more victories.
If she continues this trend, Raducanu will continue to prove more and more people wrong and surely enjoy a steady rise up the rankings.
