Serena Williams’ comeback is starting to look more likely as time goes on.

It was recently revealed that the American, who retired from tennis at the 2022 US Open, will be eligible to return to competitive tour-level action on the 22nd of February.

Williams had completed a six-month stint in the anti-doping testing pool, which is required for players to be reinstated.

Victoria Mboko discusses Serena Williams’ potential return

Mboko had just knocked Australian Open champion Elena Rybakina out of the Qatar Open, beating the second seed in three sets.

When asked if she has heard about Williams’ potential return, the 19-year-old said: “Yeah, I’ve been seeing it around my social media where it says she’s coming back.

“I feel like it’s never really confirmed until she says it’s confirmed. That would be pretty cool for the sport. She’s a legend. She’s such a household name.

“I mean, if I were to ever play her, that would be a really great experience, and that would be really fun.”

Mboko never played Williams on the WTA Tour, and their careers did not even overlap.

Victoria Mboko’s next opponent at the Qatar Open

After earning four wins at the Qatar Open, including triumphs over Rybakina and Mirra Andreeva, Mboko is now through to the final four.

In the semifinals, she will take on Jelena Ostapenko, who has also enjoyed a strong start to the Middle East swing.

Ostapenko has dropped just one set in Doha so far, and will now take on Mboko for the first time ever.

The other semifinal will feature Maria Sakkari going up against the 14th seed, Karolina Muchova.
