Tennis coach Brad Gilbert has been explaining why Coco Gauff reminds him of Andy Roddick with one element of her preparation.
The esteemed coach has been speaking on the Served with Andy Roddick podcast.
So, what has Gilbert had to say about Gauff and why does she remind him of Roddick? Let’s take a closer look…
What Brad Gilbert says Coco Gauff does that reminds him of Andy Roddick
Well, Gilbert is the man tasked with getting Gauff over the line when it comes to a Grand Slam title and the two have worked together since July 2023.
Gauff has reached finals at the French Open and US Open but she’s yet to get over the line and get her hands on a big title.
The 20-year-old has bags of time on her side, however, and Gilbert looks like the perfect coach to be working with Gauff.

Speaking with Roddick he’s been explaining what element of her game is very similar to his back when the Americans were working in tandem.
Gilbert told the Served with Andy Roddick podcast: “Andre [Agassi] liked to talk a long period of time about matches and afterwards. You needed space, get in and get out.
‘You know who’s very similar to you about information? It’s Coco. Coco can’t go a long period of time and she’s a little bit like you, the Mission Impossible this message will implode in ten seconds. And so you have to understand that.”
Gauff can go places working under Gilbert
The American coach has worked with some quality players including Andre Agassi, Andy Murray, Sam Querrey and of course, Roddick.
He would personally love to see Gauff help him win the titles that the other players he’s coached haven’t managed to.
Gauff is one of the game’s rising stars and faces a quarter-final at Indian Wells against Yue Yuan – which in truth, she should come through.
With Gilbert in her corner, there is real potential for the player and it’s interesting to hear that she doesn’t like to absorb too much information after matches.
That fearless mentality can take her a long way and the American looks set for a very bright future.
