Serena Williams had tennis fans on social media incredibly excited recently when news emerged that suggested she may be making a return to tennis.

Williams’ name appeared in a drug testing pool, which is required for players to enter in order to compete professionally.

However, the American legend quickly shut the rumours down, taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, to say: “Oh my god, y’all I’m NOT coming back. This wildfire is crazy.”

Now, for the first time since the rumour surfaced, Williams’ sister, Venus Williams, spoke about the potential of a return for the 23-time Grand Slam champion.

The Williams sisters’ record in doubles together at majors

Serena and Venus won an incredible 14 doubles Grand Slam titles as a duo, the first of which came at the 1999 French Open.

The two went on to win the US Open that year, and followed it up in 2000 with their first of six Wimbledon triumphs together.

After adding three more majors to their names between 2001 and 2003, they did not partner up at a major again until Wimbledon in 2007, where they bowed out in the second round.

They quickly find their groove again in 2008, however, when they emerged victorious at the All England Club once again, before enjoying their best season in 2009, in which they collected three Grand Slams.

The Williams sisters picked up their 14th and final major title in 2016, when they won Wimbledon by beating Timea Babos and Yaroslava Shvedova in straight sets.
