Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner played in a men’s singles final at the US Open that did have some controversy.
Alcaraz beat Sinner at the US Open to win his sixth Grand Slam title and return to world number one in the ATP rankings.
This match was attended by many high-profile names, including Donald Trump who returned to the US Open for the first time in 10 years.
Trump’s appearance created many disruptions to this match, and now Sam Querrey has called for the US Open to respond.

The men’s singles final between Alcaraz and Sinner was scheduled to get underway at 2pm in New York.
However, due to the greater security measures implemented for Trump’s arrival, the US Open announced that they would be postponing the start time by 30 minutes.
There were scenes of crowds of fans still waiting outside the Arthur Ashe Stadium when the match began, and former Wimbledon semifinalist Querrey has revealed that some did not even get into the stadium until the latter stages of the second set.
When discussing the issue on the Nothing Major podcast, Querrey called for the US Open to at least refund those caught up in the disruption.
“Obviously the President was at the match today. The line to get in took forever,” said Querrey. “There was not enough security with the metal detectors checking people in.
“I think people are going to have to get refunded. There were people who did not get in until midway or until the end of the second set.
“After the first set I went out and looked and there was still thousands and thousands of people out there. If I am the USTA and I’m assuming a bunch are going to email, I either give a partial refund or tickets next year.”
Tennis fans agree with Sam Querrey and criticise the US Open
It is not just Querrey who has been outspoken about this issue, with many tennis fans on social media agreeing with the American after fans paid huge fees for the US Open final tickets.
One person wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter), “45 minutes after scheduled start of the @usopen, half the crowd still outside Arthur Ashe Stadium. They will likely miss the first set after paying up to $2,000 a ticket. This chaos is all due to @POTUS, possibly the worst possible start of a @usta final.”
Another added, “US Open folks in charge should be ashamed at how they’re handling getting these people inside in time for the match. Ticket buyers should get discounts or refunds.”
Someone else echoed this opinion, “Really really poor from the #USOpen. They’ve known about this for days. Fans are, understandably, fuming. $1000s of dollars spent only to miss the start due to shocking preparations.”
An additional social media user said, “If the match begins and people are still waiting outside, they should be refunded.”
The same sentiment continued, “If this match starts with a half empty stadium @usopen should refund everyone who is stuck outside. Disgraceful”
It is unclear as to whether the US Open are planning to refund supporters, as they are yet to comment on the issue.
However, judging by the reaction on social media they are likely to be inundated with messages from angry tennis fans.
