The 2026 Grand Slam season is well underway

It won’t be long until we crown the first Grand Slam champions of the year.

With the second round of matches completed at the Australian Open, just 32 players remain in the men’s and women’s singles draws.

The Australian Open has already delivered several memorable moments, none more so than 40-year-old Stan Wawrinka’s five-set win over Arthur Gea.

As always, it’s been a great event down under, but is the Australian Open the best of the four Grand Slams?

We asked our fans on TalkingPoints if they thought so…

Tennis fans are split over which Grand Slam is the best

Several fans weighed in on the debate, sharing their thoughts on which major tournament is the best.

“Personally, I prefer the French Open,” one fan said.

“I just think you get a grittier, more demanding brand of tennis, which is what I like.”

As the only Grand Slam played on clay courts, the French Open certainly produces a different style of tennis from what you see in Melbourne, London, and New York.

Points are often longer and more tactical, while big servers are less effective.

That can allow for legendary matches like the 2025 French Open men’s singles final between Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner.

The pair battled it out on Court Philippe Chatrier for five hours and 29 minutes.

In comparison, their other two Grand Slam finals in 2025 lasted three hours and four minutes (Wimbledon) and two hours and 42 minutes (US Open).

That doesn’t necessarily mean the French Open is a better tournament than the others, but it’s certainly something to think about.

Other tennis fans picked Wimbledon as their favorite major.

“I love AO [Australian Open], but my preferred one is Wimbledon,” said one fan.

“I would die tò see a men’s final.”

Another fan ranked Wimbledon above the Australian Open, but argued that all four majors have declined.

“They have all changed so much (for the worse) that they all have the same feel to me,” they said.

“It used to feel completely different watching each one, and back then it was definitely Wimbledon, and then the AO.”

The four majors are admittedly more similar than ever before, but each event is still unique in its own way.

There’s the history of Wimbledon, the culture of the French Open, the Hollywood glamor of the US Open, and the atmosphere of the Australian Open.

And there is still more being added to the events today.

The 2025 US Open saw the restructuring of the mixed doubles event, attracting some of the biggest names in the sport to play.

Then, at the Australian Open, the ‘One Point Slam’ was a major success, as amateur Jordan Smith pocketed $1 million on Rod Laver Arena.

Many are now questioning what the French Open and Wimbledon will do in response.

Recognising how the four majors are ‘unique’, one fan disagreed with the claim that the Grand Slams all have the same feel.

“The Australian Open, as a Grand Slam, has earned its spot in the pantheon of great Grand Slams,” they said.

“Each of the slams are unique and would rightly claim to be the best.

“Only the fans, especially those who have attended the Slams, can decide.”

One fan was happy to back the Australian Open as the best of the four Grand Slams.

“It’s the first GS [Grand Slam] of the calendar year, fans’ pockets are still forehead level to buy expensive tickets, and most top gun players are competing and in perfect condition,” they said.

“Perfect reasons to brag, it’s the best.”

It’s impossible to say for certain which Grand Slam is the best, but regardless of which is your favorite, you’re not going to want to miss any of the action in 2026.

Who won every Grand Slam in 2025?

Six players won Grand Slam singles titles in 2025.

Australian Open

French Open

Wimbledon

US Open

Alcaraz and Sinner won two Grand Slams each on the men’s side, while Madison Keys, Coco Gauff, Iga Swiatek, and Aryna Sabalenka won the Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon, and US Open, respectively.

Only time will tell who will win the majors this year.

The first Grand Slam singles champions of 2026 will be crowned at the Australian Open on January 31 (women’s) and February 1 (men’s).
