US Open 2024 full main draw: Novak Djokovic, Taylor Fritz and Coco Gauff’s first-round matches announced

The US Open has announced the full main draw for the tournament in 2024, including who Novak Djokovic and Coco Gauff will face as they start the defences of their titles.

It is the 144th time that the US Open has held a men’s singles championship and it could see Djokovic create history. The Serbian heads to Flushing Meadows as a four-time champion on the hardcourts of the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, so is one shy of a record.

Jimmy Connors, Pete Sampras and Roger Federer share the record for the most US Opens in the open era with five. Djokovic pulled to within one of joining the trio after he defeated Daniil Medvedev 6-3, 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 last year to add to his US Open titles in 2011, 2015 and 2018.

But history is some way away for Gauff in the women’s singles championship at the US Open with her title in 2023 the American’s only Grand Slam so far. Chris Evert and Serena Williams lead the way in the open era with a joint record of six women’s singles titles at the US Open.

Gauff even returns to Flushing Meadows after a difficult run of results, having lost in the last 32 at the Cincinnati Open, the last 16 at the Canadian Open and the last 16 at Wimbledon in the past Grand Slam. She even last made a singles final at the ASB Classic back in January.

Djokovic will start his latest US Open men’s singles title defence against a qualifier in the first round. The Serbian is the No2 seed at this year’s edition, so he cannot meet world No1 and No1 seed Jannik Sinner until a possible final should they both go far at Flushing Meadows.

Gauff will start her defence of the US Open women’s singles title in the first round by playing Varvara Gracheva. The American is the No3 seed at this year’s tournament as the reigning champion, so she cannot take on No1 seed and world No1 Iga Swiatek until a potential final.
