Qualifying for the 2026 edition of the Wimbledon Championships is officially underway.
Former British number one Dan Evans, who was controversially not awarded a wildcard entry into the main draw for this year’s tournament, won his first match in qualifying on Monday.
Evans, who is set to retire after Wimbledon, beat Bolivian youngster Juan Carlos Prado Angelo in straight sets, 7-6, 6-2.

David Goffin loses in first round of Wimbledon qualifying
David Goffin, who is also due to retire at the end of the 2026 season, lost in the first round of Wimbledon qualifying.
In his last ever appearance at the All England Club as a player, the Belgian fell to Andrea Guerrieri in three sets.
The 27-year-old Italian came back from a set down to advance in qualifying, defeating Goffin 3-6, 7-5, 6-2.

Goffin is a two-time quarterfinalist at Wimbledon, having made the last eight during both the 2019 and 2022 seasons.
Last year he was beaten in the first round by Rinky Hijikata in straight sets.

David Goffin’s results on the ATP Tour so far during the 2026 season
Goffin, aged 35, has yet to win a match at ATP Tour-level so far this season, having attempted to qualify for several events.
After missing the start of the 2026 campaign due to injury, Goffin returned with two appearances at Challenger events in France, where he picked up zero wins and two losses.
Following two more defeats across Indian Wells qualifying and another Challenger event in the Dominican Republic, Goffin clinched his first win of the year in qualifying at the Monte-Carlo Masters.
But he lost his second match there, before tallying two more losses before Roland Garros.
Goffin managed to pick up another win in French Open qualifying, but then lost his second match.
Now, Goffin has just one more chance to qualify for a Grand Slam before he retires, which will come at the US Open.
