Indian Wells is just around the corner, with a long list of star-studded ATP and WTA names set to appear at the tournament.

Petra Kvitova plans to play at Indian Wells, having made a comeback after 17 months out at the ATX Open.

The former world number two lost her opener to Jodie Burrage, but showed plenty of promise in her first match back since giving birth.

Another multiple Grand Slam champion in Venus Williams meanwhile turned down the chance to play at Indian Wells.

Fans had mixed reactions to her Williams’ wildcard, but it turns out the legendary player had rejected it due to other commitments.

Barbora Krejcikova withdraws from Indian Wells due to injury

And another high-profile figure has now confirmed her absence, with Barbora Krejcikova withdrawing from Indian Wells due to injury.

Defending Wimbledon champion Krejcikova, who also won the French Open in 2021, will also miss the Miami Open because of her back injury.

Krejcikova last played at the WTA Finals in November, where she lost to Qinwen Zheng in the semi-finals in Riyadh.

Austria’s Julia Grabher has now replaced the Czech star in the Indian Wells main draw, which gets underway early next month.

Wimbledon champion Barbora Krejcikova will be missed at Indian Wells

It is, of course, a major blow for Indian Wells to not have such an accomplished player taking part this time around.

Krejcikova is an eight-time WTA champion, with the current world number 16 having once reached number two in the rankings.

And along with her superb Grand Slam singles success, the 29-year-old Czech is a serial doubles winner.

Krejcikova boasts seven Grand Slam women’s doubles titles, three Grand Slam mixed doubles titles, and indeed an Olympic women’s doubles gold medal.

The experienced star wowed Wimbledon last summer, when she overcame Italian ace Jasmine Paolini 6-2, 2-6, 6-4.
