Petra Kvitova will play at Wimbledon for the final time in her career this year.

Kvitova is a two-time Wimbledon champion, and has been ranked as high as world number two.

The Czech was away from the WTA Tour for 17 months after giving birth to her first child, before Kvitova returned at the ATX Open.

She has only won one of her eight matches since returning to the match court, with Kvitova now announcing her plans to retire at the US Open later this year.

Tracy Austin makes prediction for Petra Kvitova after she’s retired

When discussing Kvitova’s upcoming retirement, two-time US Open champion Tracy Austin has reflected on the Czech’s career.

When speaking about Kvitova on Tennis Channel, Austin praised her mentality in finals and highlighted her two Wimbledon victories in particular.

Austin also predicted that Kvitova would become part of the prestigious Tennis Hall of Fame following her retirement.

“I think I’m going to remember those two Wimbledon finals, because when most players get to a Wimbledon final it seems like they feel the nerves, they don’t play their best tennis maybe at least in the beginning and it was not that way for Petra Kvitova she was a player that could play at such a high level,” said Austin.

“There were some lows, I mean there were some big fluctuations, but the way that she just destroyed [Maria] Sharapova and then [Eugenie] Bouchard in the finals, perfect matches at Wimbledon.

“And then I think I’m going to remember the love of the fans, the love of the fellow players, that’s unusual to have both. And then also the cutting of the hand, she was coming back and she couldn’t even grip the racket with all of the fingers, it was an amazing comeback.

“We are going to miss you Petra, you are an incredible champion and a future Hall of Famer.”

Petra Kvitova Career Achievements

Kvitova has enjoyed a very decorated career, even outside of her two Wimbledon titles.

The 35-year-old has won more titles than any other active player, including nine at WTA 1000 level.

She also reached another Grand Slam final at the Australian Open in 2019, and actually led Naomi Osaka by a set before she eventually fought back.
