Danielle Collins is currently preparing for the last major of her career at the US Open next week. 

She has managed to curate the most magnificent farewell season, picking up a handful of titles and shooting up the rankings.

After being defeated by Iga Swiatek at the Australian Open this year, Danielle Collins announced that she would be retiring at the end of the year. 

What happened next was truly unprecedented with an unseeded Collins winning her first WTA 1000 title in Miami.

Unseeded again, the 30-year-old won in Charleston to return into the top 15.

A handful of finals followed with Collins later rising into the top 10 for the first time since 2022.

With New York meant to be Collins’ last dance at a grand slam, a dream ending to her career could still be on the cards.

Having reached the final at the 2022 Australian Open, Collins’ hard court game has always been her strength.

With the added level of anticipation ahead of the US Open as this year it looks remarkably open, Austin was optimstic about Collin’s chances.

“I think she’s the type of player who’s going to use this moment,” Austin told Tennis.com. “At the start of the year she was outside the Top 50, now she’s in the Top 10, just riding on emotion.

“Who knows how she’s going to play here at the US Open, but if she can get a couple of matches under her belt, get the crowd behind her, boy, she can go deep.”

With the US Open seeds announced, Collins has slipped down slightly in the rankings but remains the third highest seeded American in 11th.

However, Collins has managed to peak at incredibly opportune moments this season and has beaten a handful of top 10 players.

Her bullish style and fierce on-court attitude has carried her well so far in her career.

With the ever-exuberant US Open crowd set to get behind their departing home legend, Collins looks poised to upset the narrative yet again and go for glory.
