Andy Murray has posted a heartfelt message to Steve Johnson after the American made a huge announcement.

The Great Britain player took to Twitter to make these comments.

So, what has Murray said about Johnson on Twitter? Let’s take a closer look…

Andy Murray reacts to big Steve Johnson announcement

Well, this is pretty big and the American has now decided to call time on a playing career that began professionally in 2012.

The 6ft 2in player has decided to sail off into retirement after losing to Emilio Nava in qualifiers for Indian Wells.

Murray and Johnson have locked horns on three occasions as professionals.

The three-time Grand Slam winner won all three with the pair playing twice in Shanghai at ATP events and once at the Rio Olympics in 2016.

Now, Johnson has announced that he’s done with professional tennis and Murray tweeted the following:

Johnson makes emotional exit from tennis

This is clearly something that Johnson has been thinking about and he made his emotional exit this week.

He was seen in tears as he left the court for the final time with his partner and newly-born baby joining him.

Johnson was as honest as the day is long as a player and always left everything out on the court.

The 34-year-old won four singles titles during his career but it’s fair to say that the Grand Slam events weren’t his favourite tournaments.

He never got beyond the fourth round of the majors, with his best a run to the fourth round at Wimbledon in 2016.

As a doubles player, he did enjoy a Grand Slam semi-final on two occasions in 2015 and 2021 but couldn’t reach the final.

Murray’s comments suggest that the man who reached a high of number 21 in the world was a popular figure.

In our view, retirement is the right call, however, and Johnson will now get to spend precious time with his young family.
