Tommy Paul has named the players who he has the most difficulty playing against.

The 27-year-old has established himself as one of the most consistent players on the ATP Tour and has now broken into the world’s top 10.

Paul has also gone deep at Grand Slams, as has a quarter-final and semi-final appearance at the Australian Open.

The American’s next step is to break into the ATP Tour’s top five and start having success at the Masters 1000 level, while also aiming for glory at the majors.

Tommy Paul names Novak Djokovic as his hardest player to face

Tommy Paul has faced the top players on tour on multiple occasions.

He has had varying degrees of success against the likes of World number one Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz. Paul appeared on the Nothing major podcast and he named the toughest player for him to face on the circuit.

He placed Carlos Alcaraz at number two, and at number one was none other than 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic.

“Djokovic has got to be number one most difficult. He made me feel stupid at the Australian Open the time I played him,” he said. “I was playing my best tennis and he made me feel that.

“I haven’t played Zverev in a very long time but this year he obviously played some awesome tennis. Fritz probably wouldn’t think so, as Fritz was his Daddy this year.

“Alcaraz at Wimbledon was playing at a level which was pretty wild when I played him. I would put him at two.”

Paul has played Djokovic on just one occasion so far, and that came at the 2023 Australian Open.

This was the year Paul reached the semi-finals at Melbourne Park, but Djokovic was far superior on that day.

After a tight first set, Djokovic stormed to victory, as he claimed a 7-5, 6-1, 6-2 victory to reach the final.

Paul has played Alcaraz on six occasions and won two of their encounters , both of which took place at the Canadian Masters.

Alcaraz has won their last three meetings the Cincinnati Masters, the Wimbledon Championships and the Paris Olympics. Against Sinner, Paul claimed one win from their four meetings, at Eastbourne in 2023.
