Tommy Paul is out of Wimbledon but he will take a lot of heart from his run to the quarter-final at this year’s event.

The American player looks to be on the up and tennis in the United States does look to be on the up.

Paul won Queen’s before Wimbledon and the grass-court season does seem to be one that he certainly looks forward to.

Yesterday, he was beaten in four sets by the irresistible Carlos Alcaraz after taking the first set against the Spaniard.

After the match, some comments were making the rounds and Paul reacted after some claims that Alcaraz made.

Tommy Paul disagrees with something Carlos Alcaraz said after the game

The respect between the two players was rather high – but there was something that Alcaraz said that Paul didn’t agree with.

It was in reference to a comment from the reigning champion where he said that the match, although played on grass, had the feeling of a clay-court match.

Paul said during his press conference: “I feel like it didn’t feel super clay court style to me. I feel like we played some pretty quick points. When I say quick, I mean the ball speed was very fast. The points were long but we were kind of hitting laser beams back and forth and moving pretty well.

“I feel he kind of kept the level and mine dropped off a little bit. I didn’t serve super great today. I couldn’t find a first serve. So it’s tough to play anybody in the top 100 not finding first serves, and he was all over my second, so it wasn’t a fun situation.”

Paul can take heart from Wimbledon showing

The 27-year-old lost 7-5, 4-6, 2-6, 2-6 yesterday but for pretty much a set and a half things were going quite well.

Reaching the quarters at Wimbledon is a career-best for Paul and he will hope to come back to England next year and improve on that.

Paul has been to the semis in Australia and perhaps he’s now got a renewed optimism that he can win a Grand Slam.

The player has some time on his side and with a world ranking of number 12, he will hope to go into the US Open and the rest of the year with some confidence behind him.
