Andy Murray has seen support pour in from every corner of the tennis world, after revealing the extent of his latest injury setback.

The 36-year-old somehow forced his way through the entire three-set match on Sunday with Tomas Machac despite having ruptured his Anterior Talo-Fibular Ligament late in the clash. His ability and determination to go on is truly mesmerising.

A legendary figure who will seldom be forgotten upon his eventual retirement, simply due to his unrelenting grit and the various storylines his magnificent career has thrown up, this marks just the latest in a long line of setbacks which only add to his legacy.

That is, at least the feeling of Andy Roddick…

Whilst many sought to wish him well on his Instagram post confirming the injury, a few messages do stand out…

Fabio Fognini, Rennae Stubbs, Max Purcell, Stan Wawrinka, Neal Skupski and Boris Becker.

This is just a handful of the names who rushed to offer their support to Murray, who finished his devastating Instagram update with the following upbeat ending: ‘But I’ll be back with 1 hip and no ankle ligaments when the time is right’.

And whilst we delved into when that might be, outlining how often it takes for such an injury to heal, it’s certainly not going to be a short or easy process.

However, with the Scotsman, nothing ever really is.

Another who sent love to Murray was Tomas Etcheverry, who has actually shared the court with the three-time Grand Slam winner twice already in 2024.

The first saw the Argentinian dump him out of the first round of the Australian Open. Then, Murray would get his own back in Miami, winning in straight sets too.

Their rivalry has not got in the way of his admiration for the legendary tennis star, as he simply sent a wordless message: two hearts.

The tennis world will rally around Andy Murray

Given how people celebrated Murray’s return to action after his hip surgery in 2019, his recovery and subsequent reemergence following this ankle injury are only certain to add to the anticipation of what promises to be his final year on tour.

Wimbledon is the big one which he will be striving to return for, but for French fans, it marks a shame that he is very unlikely to make it back in time for Roland-Garros.

Whichever tournament he selects as a comfortable one to return to action, whether it be in six weeks or six months, his fanbase will not have wavered.

In fact, this spell out will likely only solidify support, as he continues to showcase his exceptional intangible assets which have made him so adored throughout his glittering career.
