Team World managed to reclaim the Laver Cup from Team Europe after putting themselves in a great position on day two of the event.

Captain Andre Agassi‘s side emerged victorious in all four matches on Saturday to take a commanding 9-3 lead heading into the final day.

One of those wins saw world number five Taylor Fritz triumph over Carlos Alcaraz for the first time in his career, besting the Spaniard in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2.

It was a tough loss for Alcaraz and Team Europe, who would have seen the tie as a favourable route to two points.

Tim Henman recalls Carlos Alcaraz’s practice at the Laver Cup

The result motivated the world number one, however, who, by vice captain Tim Henman‘s account, was feeling energised the next day.

Speaking at a ‘Served Live’ event before play on day three, Henman said: “With Carlos, I’m slightly stating the obvious here, but his energy is so good.

“This morning when we came on the practice court, he lost yesterday, but he’s still so fun to be around.

“At 9 am, there was no one there, and he let out this sort of yell of, you know, ‘I’m so pumped’. He said: ‘Today’s gonna be a great day’. He has such good energy.

“Then at the end of practice, Andre was there, Pat was there, I was there, Janik was there, and Riley and Alex Michelsen came on the court, and he greeted them all.

“Then he said to Alex: ‘Hey buddy, how are you?’ Carlos said to him: ‘Are you ready?’ Michelsen said yeah, and he said: ‘Are you really ready?’ I was like ‘Oh my god’.”

Carlos Alcaraz’s record at the 2025 Laver Cup

Alcaraz played four matches for Yannick Noah-led Team Europe at the Laver Cup, the first of which came in doubles on day one.

Alongside young star Jakub Mensik, he clinched his first win of the tournament against the Team World duo of Fritz and Alex Michelsen.

After his loss to the American number one, Alcaraz bounced back on day three and secured six points for his team.

He partnered with Casper Ruud to defeat Michelsen and Reilly Opelka, before dominating Francisco Cerundolo to force a deciding match between Fritz and Alexander Zverev.
