Tim Henman suggested where Carlos Alcaraz can improve his game.
In 2025 the Spaniard has performed somewhat below the standards he has set himself over the last three seasons.
Alcaraz has claimed just one title, which came in Rotterdam, and he failed to reach the final of any other tournament he has entered so far.
With the clay court season approaching, the 21-year-old will aim to get back into the winner’s circle, especially with his French Open title defence commencing at the end of May.
How does Tim Henman think Carlos Alcaraz can improve his game?
Carlos Alcaraz has arguably the highest level of any player on the ATP Tour when at his best.
The Spaniard illustrated this in 2024 when he won two Grand Slam titles and went undefeated against World number one Jannik Sinner, winning all three of their matches.
But Alcaraz has been inconsistent this season and though Sinner is currently suspended, he has not been the player to step up and dominate.
The World number three is searching for his best form and Tim Henman suggests an area he can improve on to help make that happen.
“I definitely don’t see it as a moment of crisis. He’s not playing his best tennis, but it’s all part of the journey of learning and understanding yourself,” the Brit told TNT Sports.
“For me, shot selection is still an area that he can improve on. I think when he improves his shot selection, then he will become more consistent.
“And he’s one of the best players in the world. So I think he’s capable of winning any tournament that he enters.”
Carlos Alcaraz training for start to clay court season
After taking a break following an opening round defeat in Miami, Alcaraz is working hard for the start of the clay court season.
According to Spanish outlet La7 TV, Alcaraz has been training on the courts of the Real Murcia Club de Tenis.
The four-time Grand Slam champion is set to travel to Monaco to continue preparations for the start of the Monte Carlo Masters.
The Masters 1000 event will commence on Monday and Alcaraz will aim to win the title for the first time on what would be just his second appearance at the tournament.
He has not played in Monaco since 2022, where he was beaten by America’s Sebastian Korda in his first match.
