Tim Henman makes big ranking prediction for Carlos Alcaraz in 2025 as he snubs Novak Djokovic

Jannik Sinner sits comfortably at the top of the ATP rankings after defending his Australian Open title.

Sinner won his second Australian Open title after beating Alexander Zverev, which was his 21st consecutive match win.

The last time that Sinner lost a match was in the China Open final against Carlos Alcaraz, who exited the Australian Open at the quarter-final stage.

Alcaraz was bidding to make history at the Australian Open by becoming the youngest man to complete the Career Grand Slam, but will now have to wait another year if he is to achieve that.

The Spaniard was knocked out of the Australian Open by Novak Djokovic, who has since faced a setback after retiring from his semi-final due to injury.

Tim Henman predicts Carlos Alcaraz to end 2025 as world number one

World number one Sinner found himself a comfortable 3695 points ahead of Zverev when the ATP rankings were updated following the conclusion of the Australian Open.

Sinner is even further ahead of the current world number three Alcaraz, who trails the top spot by 4,820 points at the moment.

However, Tim Henman believes that Alcaraz will bridge that gap and told Sky Sports that he believes the Murcian will end 2025 as world number one.

Henman predicted the top eight ranked ATP players for the end of the 2025 season, plus a wildcard selection, with Djokovic noticeably missing.

Djokovic is currently world number six and has not been ranked outside the top 10 since July 2018.

However, the severity of Djokovic’s injury is currently unclear with the 24-time major winner undergoing a scan after exiting the Australian Open.

Henman also predicted his top nine for the WTA rankings, but did not include Australian Open champion Madison Keys.

Aryna Sabalenka could not defend her Australian Open title, but managed to hold off Iga Swiatek from dethroning her as world number one.

There is currently only 186 points separating the top two players, and it appears that Henman thinks Swiatek will reclaim her place at the top of the rankings by the end of the year.

Noticeably, Henman has not included Grand Slam finalists Jasmine Paolini and Jessica Pegula, instead picking the likes of Naomi Osaka, Karolina Muchova and 17-year-old Mirra Andreeva to make their way into the top 10.

Osaka has made a strong start to the season, with the former world number one reaching the Auckland final, but has also struggled with injury and retired from her third round match at the Australian Open.

The next big tournament that is set to feature all of these players is the WTA 1000 event in Doha followed by the same calibre field in Dubai, where Swiatek and Paolini are the defending champions, respectively.
