Emma Raducanu made a big change to her team prior to Roland Garros starting.

Raducanu rehired Andrew Richardson, the coach who guided her to a maiden Grand Slam title at the US Open back in 2021.

The Briton has struggled to find form this season, having crashed out in the early stages of every big competition.

She will enter Roland Garros having played just one match on clay, which was an opening-round defeat to Diane Parry in Strasbourg.

Raducanu’s appearance at the French Open will be just the third of her career, and former British player Tim Henman does not have high expectations for his compatriot.

Tim Henman not hopeful for Emma Raducanu at Roland Garros

As per Tennis 365, Henman said: “I really hope, first and foremost, that Emma’s fit and healthy. That has to be the No 1 priority.

“To have Andrew Richardson back in Emma’s corner is good news, and now I hope everyone shows a bit of patience.

“I hope she sticks with him because she needs some consistency and continuity, and that will come with matches on court.

“You need to build up that physical resilience to compete at the highest level and she needs to build momentum on the match court.”

Discussing Richardson, Henman said: “He’s very understated and he’s got a great knowledge in the game.

“He was a good player himself and he’s known Emma for many, many years since she was young. They’ve obviously got the history from the US Open, so it will be interesting to see how it all evolves.

“Clay’s the toughest surface for her, so I’m not expecting a great deal at Roland Garros as grass is a much better surface for her.

“So she needs to use this short burst on clay to get ready for the grass, where we know the spotlight on her will be extremely intense.”

Emma Raducanu’s campaign at Roland Garros last year

Raducanu has never advanced past the second round at Roland Garros, which is where she finished last season.

She beat Wang Xinyu in the first round of the 2025 tournament, before suffering a heavy defeat to Iga Swiatek.

This time around, Raducanu will take on Solana Sierra in the opening round, whom she has never faced before on the WTA Tour.

Should she advance past the Argentine, Raducanu will be faced with either Jasmine Paolini or Dayana Yastremska in round two.

Raducanu has yet to win a title on the WTA Tour since hoisting the 2021 US Open trophy.
