Nick Kyrgios has been reminiscing about his first impressions upon bursting onto the tennis scene.

As, what he has described as quite an awkward character, there was bound to be some nerves.

Especially when brushing shoulders with the legendary Roger Federer, revered for his unparalleled quality on the court and cool and calm demeanour off it.

The Australian tennis player, and former world number 13, has now outlined what he thought of the Swiss superstar back then.

What Nick Kyrgios said about Roger Federer

Kyrgios, who has moved into the podcasting sphere during his absence, has been welcoming many guests onto his podcast, aptly labelled Good Trouble.

Speaking to Rainn Wilson, star of the US version of The Office, the two discussed what it meant to cause Good Trouble, upsetting the status quo to improve things for the better.

And whilst his guest was the main topic, it was intriguing the way in which he posed questions back onto Kyrgios, his host.

As an equally interesting figure, his answers were also worth a listen, as he detailed his first encounter with Federer.

The 28-year-old said: ‘When I first came on the tour I was so out of pocket like with the normal tennis player, at the time it was like Andy Murray, Federer, these gentlemen that were so clean cut and I came on the scene and I was like ‘Woah, this is so strange’.’

When will Nick Kyrgios be back from injury?

Love him or loathe him, Kyrgios being back on tour can only be a good thing for tennis.

So understandably there has been clamour to learn when the 2022 Wimbledon finalist might be making his return to the court, having consistently been pegged back in his rehabilitation.

Seeking to offer semi-regular updates on his Instagram, his latest came five days ago, with a montage of some of his most iconic moments with the caption ‘this comeback is personal’.

A day earlier, he had penned the following paragraph detailing his personal struggles throughout this period: ‘when I look at this photo, it reminds me of the struggle that I’ve been going through lately, 2 surgeries over the past year and a half after being so close to a Grand slam. Let this be a reminder that I’m not giving up, I’m taking this process day by day and it’s allowed me to take full advantage of other amazing things in my life, opportunities I would never of known if I hadn’t gotten injured.

‘If you feel like you are struggling or feeling as if you don’t know what’s next, just take the next step you see and make sure it’s in the right direction. Reach out at anytime because I assure you we all feel like this sometimes’.

As one of tennis’ most abrasive and unapologetic characters, I for one cannot wait for his return, to upset the status quo once again and hopefully get back to his best.
