Andy Roddick has now been left furious with one ‘dumb’ tennis rule, and the manner in which it was enforced by the chair umpire.
His rant was lengthy and impassioned, as he sought to uphold the enjoyment of the supporters, which was so cruelly taken away due to a stupid stipulation yesterday.
But what was it that left the USA pundit so frustrated? We take a closer look…
Andy Roddick fumes at chair umpire and ‘dumb’ tennis rule
Speaking to the Tennis Channel after Jannik Sinner’s comfortable Miami Open win over Chris O’Connell, the former world number one was left unhappy with one decision made by the chair umpire.
It was a move that left one fan looking ‘embarrassed’, and as he goes on to say that it actually broke his heart.
Roddick was talking about how a stray ball catapulted up into the stands, where one gleeful fan caught it and brandished his new trophy.
However, he was swiftly instructed to return it to the court, much to his disappointment.
Well, the 41-year-old pundit noted: ‘No I think we should totally make this guy feel badly about grabbing a ball at a sporting event… this is dumb. I’ve argued with Fergus about everything under the sun for my entire career and I would have argued this…

‘If a ball goes in a stand why would we not elevate the fan experience and let them keep it? Like, the thing that’s heartbreaking is he catches it, he’s pumped, look at his face. Someone tells him to give it back, he has this moment of embarrassment, or like he felt like he did something wrong, and it breaks my heart.
‘It’s dumb, it’s short-sighted, let’s take the wins in tennis, make everyone happy if they catch a ball. This is dumb.’
Jannik Sinner has a clear run to the Miami Open final
Seeing to avenge his Indian Wells defeat at the hands of Carlos Alcaraz, the Italian tennis star will be seeking to maintain his fine form and fire his way into the final, where the two could meet.
However, of the pair, it is fair to say that the 22-year-old boasts the far easier of the draws.
After all, the Spaniard first must overcome Grigor Dimitrov, before likely setting up a clash with Alexander Zverev, should the giant killer Fabian Marozsan fail to claim another scalp.

Meanwhile, Sinner first has Tomas Machac to contend with, who whilst a hard hitter does not quite boast the power of the 2024 Australian Open winner.
The red-hot Nicolas Jarry and Daniil Medvedev make up the other semi-final, but again these are favourable opponents for Sinner, who has won his last four matches against the latter, including one in the final of that aforementioned Grand Slam.
