Nick Kyrgios has chosen the tournament where he plans to make his return to professional tennis.

The Australian has played just one competitive match since 2022 due to wrist and knee injuries.

There were question marks around whether Nick Kyrgios would make a comeback, especially when he entered the realm of tennis commentary and podcasting presenting.

But the 29-year-old expressed his desire to return earlier this season and it is now confirmed when he will step back on the court in a professional capacity.

When will Nick Kyrgios return to professional tennis?

Kyrgios will be back on the ATP Tour at the start of the 2025 season.

It has been announced that the former World number 13 will start his tennis comeback at the Brisbane International, an event he won in 2018.

The tournament, which awards 250 ranking points to the winner, is one of the events used by players to fine tune their games ahead of the Australian Open, the first Grand Slam of the year.

The Brisbane International is set to commence on December 29, 2024, with the final taking place on January 5, 2024. Excited by the news, they took to their tennis account and tweeted: “Welcome BACK, @NickKyrgios.”

Prior to the Brisbane International, Kyrgios stated his intentions to compete in the World Tennis League exhibition event in Abu Dhabi, which runs from December 19 to 22.

Nick Kyrgios provides fitness update ahead of long-awaited return

Since reaching the 2022 US Open quarter-finals, Kyrgios has been blighted by injury issues.

This occurred just six weeks after he made the Wimbledon final, before suffering a four-set defeat to Novak Djokovic.

His wrist and knee injuries threatened to end his career, but after undergoing wrist reconstruction, Kyrgios is ready to return to action.

“Honestly, this is probably the best I’ve felt in two years,” he told a Melbourne television station on Friday. “I played that amazing year in 2022.

“Then at the finals in Wimbledon and US Open, that’s when I started feeling some issues in my wrist. I had that wrist reconstruction and now I’m feeling amazing.”
