This year’s Davis Cup Finals in Malaga will host Rafael Nadal’s final matches as a professional tennis player.

After 23 years as a professional, Nadal is set to hang up the racket upon the conclusion of the 2024 Davis Cup Finals in Malaga.

Nadal announced his retirement earlier this year, having struggled with a number of serious injuries over the past few seasons.

Nadal will participate in the Davis Cup with Spain, who he has won the trophy with four times in his career to date.

Questions have been asked as to what role the 38-year-old will play at the event, with many suggesting that Nadal will participate in the doubles, rather than singles.

Regardless of which matches Nadal plays in Malaga, it will be an emotional affair, with plenty of tributes already in place.

Malaga’s Davis Cup stadium unveils Rafael Nadal tribute banner

Ahead of the 2024 Davis Cup Finals in Malaga, the Palacio de Deportes José María Martín Carpena, which will host the event has had a big makeover to honour Nadal’s career.

“Gracias, Rafa,” can be seen as fans head into the stadium, a tribute to the Spaniard’s legendary career on the ATP Tour.

The stadium has a capacity of 11,000 which will no doubt be packed for Nadal’s last dance as a professional.

Spain are set to face off against the Netherlands in the quarter-finals on November 19, with Nadal potentially set to take part.

Rafael Nadal’s four Davis Cup triumphs

Nadal is one of the most successful players in the history of the Davis Cup, having won the title four times in his illustrious career.

Four incredible titles, all with their own story to boot.

2004 – Spain beat United States 3-2

Nadal’s first Davis Cup win came just a few short years into his career as a professional as the Spanish contingent took down the Americans in Seville.

Nadal won the blockbuster match of the final, as he beat Andy Roddick in four sets to put his side one win away from the title.

The Bryan brothers won the next doubles match to bring things back to 2-1, before Carlos Moya clinched the title against Roddick.

It was the first of many for Spain and Nadal, who took home the glory in Seville.

2009 – Spain beat Czech Republic 5-0

Far less tense of an affair in 2009, the Spaniards dominating their Czech opponents, to hand Nadal his second Davis Cup title.

The 22-time Major winner got things off to a fantastic start, taking care of Czech star Tomas Berdych in straight sets.

David Ferrer then beat Radek Stepanek before the Spanish doubles team finished the job in Barcelona.

Nadal also had time to add another win to his tally, winning against Jan Hajek in straight sets.

2011 – Spain beat Argentina 3-1

The Spanish side headed back to Seville in 2011 to take on a talented Argentinian side for the title.

Nadal once again started things strongly, as he beat Juan Monaco in straight sets, dropping just four games all match.

With Spain leading 2-1, Nadal returned to action against Juan Martin del Potro knowing that a win would secure his third Davis Cup crown.

Despite dropping the first set, Nadal powered back to win in four sets, as Spain won the Davis Cup once more.

2019 – Spain beat Canada 2-0

Nadal’s only victory in the new Davis Cup format came in 2019, when his Spanish side beat a young Canadian team in Madrid.

Roberto Bautista Agut put Spain a win away from victory with his opening match against Felix Auger Aliassime, which he won in straight sets.

Once again it was up to Nadal to seal the deal, facing off against rising star Denis Shapovalov.

As if you would expect any less, Nadal won in straight sets, taking home his fourth Davis Cup title in front of an adoring Madrid crowd.

Whether Nadal can add one last trophy to his resume in Malaga remains to be seen, but you certainly won’t want to miss seeing him try.
