The US Open has announced their wildcards for the 2025 tournament that includes the offspring of a former champion.

Venus Williams is one of the US Open wildcards, as she continues her comeback to tennis at 45 years old.

There are also some notable omissions, with former US Open champion Stan Wawrinka missing from the list.

While this other ATP player has not created many headlines with his announcement of his wildcard, he is actually the son of a former two-time US Open champion.

The son of Tracy Austin has received a wildcard for the US Open this year

That player is Brandon Holt, who is actually the son of former world number one and two-time US Open champion Tracy Austin.

Austin won the US Open in 1979 and 1981, with both title victories coming when she was just a teenager.

These days Austin voices her opinion on tennis as a pundit and commentator, but she will have a more personal interest in the US Open this year.

Her 27-year-old son, Brandon Holt, is a professional tennis player and is currently the world number 106.

It has been a breakthrough season so far for Holt, who began the 2025 season ranked outside the top 200.

Holt has won two ATP Challenger titles this year, and actually broke inside the top 100 for the first time in June.

As a result, he has been awarded a wildcard for the men’s singles draw alongside Nishesh Basavareddy, Darwin Blanch, Tristan Boyer, Stefan Dostanic, Emilio Nava, Valentin Royer and Tristan Schoolkate.

In reaction to the announcement, Holt wrote on Instagram, “Thank you @usta let’s go @usopen.”

While this is a big moment for Holt, it will actually not be his first appearance in the main draw of the US Open.

What happened when Brandon Holt played at the US Open in 2022?

Holt made his first appearance at the US Open in 2022 after coming through qualifying.

The Californian made full use of his Grand Slam main draw debut, with Holt stunning his compatriot Taylor Fritz in the first round.

Despite having a US Open champion mother, it appears that Holt is no different to most sons, as he revealed after his win over Fritz that he could not really remember what Austin told him before the match.

“Apparently not because I don’t remember what she told me,” Holt said in his press conference after beating Fritz. “I don’t know what she said. Probably just go have fun. I don’t know. The same stuff. Enjoy it.

“And I did. I found myself in some difficult situations, maybe I didn’t play quite as well as I could have in certain times, but then I played very well in other times.

“Yeah, that’s tennis. Things are going to be up and down. Sometimes it was down, sometimes it was up. At the end of the day it fell my way so I couldn’t be happier.”

Holt would lose his subsequent match in five sets to Pedro Cachin, and has not returned to the main draw of the US Open since.

It has now been confirmed that he will be at the New York major again, but Holt still could actually receive direct entry as he is the first alternate which would free up a wildcard for someone else.
