Juan Carlos Ferrero has not been invited into the exclusive club that is the International Tennis Hall of Fame.
Ferrero has coached Carlos Alcaraz since 2019, helping the Spaniard win six Grand Slam titles already at just 22 years old.
While he is more associated with coaching Alcaraz these days, Ferrero also had a very successful playing career.
Despite winning a Grand Slam title and being world number one, there is a reason why Ferrero is not part of the Tennis Hall of Fame.
Why has Juan Carlos Ferrero not been inducted into the Tennis Hall of Fame?
Ferrero won 16 titles in his career, including the French Open and four Masters 1000 titles.
Alongside winning his only major title in 2003, Ferrero also reached two other Grand Slam finals.
To be inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame, players cannot be a ‘significant factor’ on the ATP Tour for five years.
Ferrero retired from professional tennis in 2012, and nine years later was shortlisted as one of three nominees for the International Tennis Hall of Fame.
To be inducted into the Hall of Fame, players must receive a total of 75% from the Official Voting Group, which consists of journalists, historians and industry leaders, combined with any bonus percentage points from the Fan Vote.
In 2021, Ferrero was nominated alongside Lleyton Hewitt, who has just returned to tennis, Sergi Bruguera, Jonas Bjorkman and Lisa Raymond.
As the vote is affirmative, players are not competing against one another to be nominated into the prestigious Tennis Hall of Fame, but instead are seeking approval from the journalists, historians and industry leaders.
Ferrero did not receive enough votes in 2021 and was therefore not inducted into the Hall of Fame, with just Hewitt being inducted from the aforementioned list.
However, players who are not inducted are automatically nominated for the two following years, but no player received enough votes in either 2022 or 2023.
Ferrero’s hopes are not completely over, as there is no limit to the number of times that a player can be nominated for the Tennis Hall of Fame.
However, the rules state that for a player to be nominated they must have been an active competitor within the past 20 years, giving Ferrero just seven more years to be inducted.

It has been confirmed that Roger Federer will be inducted into the Tennis Hall of Fame next year, with the 20-time Grand Slam champion headlining the 2026 induction ceremony.
However, two players like Ferrero have also been rejected this year, with both Juan Martin del Potro and Svetlana Kuznetsova not being inducted into the Hall of Fame after being unable to meet the 75% threshold.
Both Del Potro and Kuznetsova will be part of the nominee list once again next year, and they will be hoping to have a similar fate to both Goran Ivanisevic and Conchita Martinez, who were inducted one year after being rejected.
There are a total of 17 players who have been rejected from the Tennis Hall of Fame in the past 10 years, but some of those players have since been accepted.
Both Yevgeny Kafelnikov and Mary Pierce were rejected from the Tennis Hall of Fame in 2015, but four years later were then accepted.
While Helena Sukova, who famously ended Martina Navratilova’s 74-match winning streak, was inducted two years after her first nomination.
The induction ceremony for the 2026 International Tennis Hall of Fame will take place in Newport, Rhode Island, between August, 27-29.
