Ahead of the second day of the Paris Masters, Jannik Sinner has made an announcement.

He will no longer be participating in this year’s event.

The top seed, and top-ranked men’s player in the world, has enjoyed a mesmeric year thus far, and was one of the hot favourites to win the entire tournament.

Especially with some of the tennis he was playing in Riyadh at the Six Kings Slam, thriving on the indoor courts.

Well, that will now no longer be a possibility, with the reasons behind his absence now revealed.

Why has Jannik Sinner pulled out of the Paris Masters?

As has now been widely reported by various outlets, Jannik Sinner is confirmed to be out of the event.

However, the why behind it remains a frustration, given it is not a physical injury.

Instead, the Italian will not be able to compete due to illness; more specifically an intestinal virus.

This is not the first time that sickness has halted his progress, losing at Wimbledon whilst ill and pulling out of the Olympics due to tonsillitis.

Carlos Alcaraz has a free run at the title

With Sinner now absent from the event, and Novak Djokovic having pulled out from the Paris Masters too, the top seeds are dropping like flies.

For Carlos Alcaraz, this represents a huge opportunity to therefore claim a far easier title.

After all, the Spaniard has been near-flawless all season when facing top opposition, with the likes of Alexander Zverev, Daniil Medvedev and more seldom troubling him.

When on top form, even Sinner and Djokovic struggle to overcome him, so the 21-year-old now needs to remain focused and keep his level sky high despite the competition having eased dramatically.

Alcaraz offered a fitness update just yesterday, which was positive in comparison to his two main rivals.

So, as the outstanding player left in the competition by some distance, this simply has to be another title triumph for the four-time Grand Slam champion. It would represent his first at this event.
