It seems as though every back-to-back tournament triumph in tennis has its own unique name.
A player who wins both the Indian Wells Open and the Miami Open, the duo of ATP Masters 1000/WTA 1000 competitions played near the start of the season, completes what is known as the ‘Sunshine Double’.
The title given to the achievement of clinching both the Roland Garros title and the Wimbledon title is called the ‘Channel Slam’.
What is the best Grand Slam in tennis right now?
And if you emerge victorious at the Canadian Open and the Cincinnati Open, you complete the ‘Summer Sweep’.
Jannik Sinner will need to achieve the latter in order to continue his bid to become the only player in history to win all nine ATP Masters 1000 tournaments in a season.
But the feat is an incredibly difficult one; so difficult that only four players have ever managed it.

Players to complete the ‘Summer Sweep’ on the ATP Tour
Andre Agassi became the first player to do the ‘Summer Sweep’ in 1995, beating Pete Sampras in the Canadian Open final and Michael Chang in the Cincinnati Open title bout.
Agassi had won the Washington Open directly before, and won a title in New Haven straight after, but his 26-match winning streak came to an end in the US Open final that year versus Sampras.
Three years later, Patrick Rafter followed suit, winning in both Canada and Cincinnati during the 1998 ATP season.
The Australian did not drop a set in Canada, and beat Sampras in the Cincinnati final, before going on to clinch his second consecutive US Open crown later that summer.
You can bring one tennis legend out of retirement. Who do you pick and why?
It wasn’t until 2003 that a player managed the ‘Summer Sweep’, with Andy Roddick adding his name to the exclusive club that year.
Roddick overcame Roger Federer during the run, which was followed by a maiden Grand Slam triumph at the US Open, marking the last time an American man won a major singles title.
Rafael Nadal was the fourth and most recent player to go back-to-back in Canada and Cincinnati.
Nadal completed the feat in 2013, beating his biggest rivals, Federer and Novak Djokovic, across the two tournaments.
Like Rafter and Roddick, the Spaniard also went on to win the US Open later that season.

Jannik Sinner’s results in Canada and Cincinnati over the years
Sinner, in pursuit of the ‘Summer Slam’, has won both the Canadian Open and the Cincinnati Open in his career.
He hoisted the Canadian Open trophy for the first and only time in 2023, winning the tournament after beating the likes of Gael Monfils, Tommy Paul and Alex de Minaur.
A year later, he won a maiden Cincinnati Open title, which led to him claiming his second Grand Slam at the US Open.
Last season, Sinner did not feature at the Canadian Open after capturing his first Wimbledon title.
He reached the final of the 2026 Cincinnati Open, but was forced to retire during his championship bout with Carlos Alcaraz due to illness.
