The new ATP and WTA top 10s as Ben Shelton and Mirra Andreeva climb the rankings

Many ATP and WTA stars are currently fully focused on the Australian Open, which is now well underway in Melbourne.

ATP number one Carlos Alcaraz is already into the Australian Open second round, along with WTA number one Aryna Sabalenka.

But there have also been plenty of upsets in the early stages of the Australian Open, including an exit for seven-time Grand Slam champion Venus Williams.

Amid the action, the world rankings have been updated, although it will be of little importance to the players at this moment in time.

Ben Shelton overtakes Felix Auger-Aliassime in ATP top 10

Still, there has been a significant switch in the ATP top 10, with Ben Shelton climbing one spot from eighth to seventh.

He has replaced Felix Auger-Aliassime, who is unfortunately among the early casualties at the Grand Slam in Melbourne.

Auger-Aliassime has withdrawn from the Australian Open, retiring hurt during his first round meeting with Nuno Borges.

There is also movement from positions 10-20, with Alejandro Davidovich Fokina climbing one spot to 14th at the expense of Andrey Rublev.

ASB Classic champion Jakub Mensik has risen one spot to 17th in place of Karen Khachanov, and Tommy Paul has replaced Francisco Cerundolo in 20th.

Mirra Andreeva climbs WTA top 10 after Adelaide title

Just like the ATP top 10, there is only one mover in the WTA top 10, with Mirra Andreeva also rising one spot to seventh.

She has replaced Jasmine Paolini, with the Russian superstar having just clinched the Adelaide International title.

Teenage sensation Andreeva defeated fellow rising star Victoria Mboko in the final for her fourth title on the WTA Tour.

Thanks to her fantastic run in Adelaide, Mboko has climbed one spot in the WTA rankings to 16th, replacing former world number one Naomi Osaka.

It represents the only change in the 10-20 spots, although Kimberly Birrell has caught the eye by climbing a huge 31 places to 76th.

The Australian ace really impressed on home soil recently, reaching the semifinals in Adelaide before losing to Mboko.
