Robin Montgomery has just enjoyed an unforgettable week on the WTA Tour after winning the Libema Open in ‘s-Hertogenbosch.
Montgomery entered the WTA 250 tournament as a qualifier, with the 21-year-old ending the week with her first career title.
Her final with Barbora Krejcikova was, however, ruled a walkover after the Czech eighth seed withdrew because of illness.
But Montgomery still deserves huge credit for her title, with the American having just become the lowest-ranked champion for two years.

WTA number 484 Robin Montgomery wins Libema Open title
Montgomery started the tournament ranked 484th in the world, and has now followed in the footsteps of WTA icon Elina Svitolina.
She was ranked all the way down in 508th when she clinched the title in Strasbourg in 2023.
Previous champions in that light comprise WTA number 579 Angelique Widjaja winning Bali in 2001, the unranked Mirjana Lucic-Baroni winning Bol in 1997, and the unranked Kim Clijsters winning the 2009 US Open.
Libema Open champion Montgomery has now soared the WTA rankings after her win, climbing a stunning 290 places to 194th.

Coco Gauff and Ben Shelton react to Robin Montgomery’s first WTA title
It’s a fantastic achievement from Montgomery, who beat the likes of Ajla Tomljanovic and Daria Kasatkina en route to the title.
The 21-year-old American also knocked out Greet Minnen and Daria Snigur in the main draw after qualifying wins over Yue Yuan and Joanna Garland.
She has since taken to social media to celebrate her success, with Montgomery posting on her Instagram: “Title #1 [Libema Open].
“This week has been amazing and couldn’t have done it without my team and family.”
And many of her fellow American professionals have shared their delight at the triumph, across both the WTA and ATP tours.
Coco Gauff and Frances Tiafoe commented: “Champ,” with Ben Shelton writing “We outside” and Madison Keys noting: “She’s back.”
Just like popular winner Montgomery, there was also a first ATP title for Kamil Majchrzak at the Libema Open.
Majchrzak revealed his Novak Djokovic inspiration after defeating Alex de Minaur 6-3, 2-6, 7-6(7-5) in the men’s final.
